Default AX-10 battery situation

i need some help.
i accidentally bought some 3 cell lipo's for my scorpion not realizing it requires a 2 cell lipo but i like the extra power but its overheating and shutting down i was wondering if there is a cheap solution other than a new ESC any suggestions

A castle bec is between 20 and 25 bucks. It is a good idea to have one anyway. I would try that first to see o
If it solves your problem.

The AE2 system is designed for 2S. Will work but it's iffy for 3S. When you volt-up, you should gear down. Start with a 11 or 12T pinion and if the motor still runs warm, up the spur gear to whatever will fit. Between the two try for about a 25% ratio change. This will pull a lot of stress off your overworked motor.

And yes, a BEC is almost a necessity if running a 3S. But also start saving for an ESC upgrade. The axial motors are cheap to replace, but the esc's cost, so you might as well go Castle SV2 when yours smokes.

A 3S in and of itself, I highly doubt it.
A 3S with a low turn motor and/or tall gearing might make it unhappy.

I ran my AE-1 last comp season with a CC BEC, a 1,300mAh 3S LiPo, the stock 55 turn motor, and stock 14/87 gearing, it worked just fine. If it wasn't for the delay between reverse and forward, I'd still be running that ESC. If an AE-1 can handle 3S, I would have a difficult time believing an AE-2 can't handle it.

Invest in the BEC, pick up a CastleLink (to set your voltage to 6 volts), and fire away with the 3S!

Against it? Not at all. But everything has a price. More voltage causes more heat, more stress. No motor or esc lasts forever, and working them harder will obviously have an effect on life span.
