Default Colby's T1E Sportsman

Time I build a sportsman. My girlfriend wants to compete and I finally had the parts together to give her a good starting point.

Specs:
Axial Axles w/ CVD's under driven rear, VP C's and Knuckles
Axial transmission with RR idler gear
T1E Sporty chassis
VOODOOS
TI lower links

This is where Im at. Still waiting on parts. Definetly not going to run Losi shocs, just mocking it up.

Plans are to just run a wider hub until beef tubes and wraith knuckles are affordable. I want to run big bores, make a custom front axle mount, etc. Have to get a starting point somewhere right?

Good looking rig so far.

The chassis looks familiar.....

Like I said this is for my girlfriend. Hence the pink paint job

Made a carbon fiber front servo/link/battery mount. I dig it.

I also made some upper links using 1/8in steel rod. They held up on my berg so why not try them on the sporty. This along with some SCX10 shocks gave it a nice look as far as suspension. We will see when I get on the rocks.

I also picked up a couple of Nano-tech 460mah 3s lipos to go on this thing. They fit right where I want them to with no interference with the shocks.

I cleaned up an old set of STRC wraith knuckles and C's and have some beef tubes on the way for the front axle. I think i will just run a rediculously wide rear hub, or maybe wideners.

Lastly I mirrored the transmission. Didnt seem like a big deal but did it anyway.

No binding, no goofy stuff. Hopefully this thing will teach her how to drive until shes ready for an MOA.

I'm in the same boat Colby. I was doing a vp10 to compare to my berg. She claimed it and is now driving real well. Now she wants a sporty and I'm only 3/4 of the way through my first. It's an awesome thing to have the bosses support. However building for 2 can get pricy enjoy! This is looking great so far!

Are the picture with the tranny mirrored? It seems not, motor still at left hand side...

Nice paint job for the body....

Well, I am building this for her because I wanted a sportsman. May have to get me a manly painted body

I think if we go with a berg the sportsman will go to a more mutual rig that we will share, and I will build her a pink berg or something

Well, I put the spur shaft in the opposite way and then when mounting the motor plate it is backwards. I thought I did it right? It matches the way hbj069 did in his S build.

Thanks for the props on the body. She loved it. Nice and simple

Nope...evidently it was already mirrored cuz now it's back to stock. Mirrored actually means that the motor would be towards the front of the rig and on the "passenger" side too. In most shafty rigs the motor still faces rearwards, but it is on the "passenger" side in order to put more weight on the side that would normally lift due to torque twist.

Got some more parts in today. Taylor wanted to pull the tires from the wheels and put the 6.0 nova foams in. I hid the drill driver so she had to do it the old fashioned way (since it was her first time)

Then, since the 7980 servo came in I got it snug between the plate and the axle. Had to wire it up and I need to get a servo horn for it.

I got a De-Cased BRXL in the mail from Chicklet and smashed it and her SR3100 receiver. I made a carbon fiber mount so the electronics will sit between the pinion and the upper links. No rubbing or binding, so far its a success

Chicklet also sent me a set of VP vvd's for the XR10. These things are pretty awesome, couldn't pass the deal up to have a little bit of bling

Just waiting on Beef Tubes to come in and the money to gather for the motor and we can start practicing.

Aha!! Thanks Steve. I hope we can gear it right. Her radio doesnt have EPA's (DX3E) so its more than likely going to be just an on-off switch. She said you are awesome!

Thumbs up Re: Colby's T1E Sportsman

Very nice Sporty! I loke the Servo placement

Do you know, if a LNC Gearbox would fit in this chassis?

Greetings,
Jeffrey

Thanks man!
You could probably make a new skid plate that would work in it but the stock skid plate is only drilled for an ax-10 transmission. That being said also, this chassis isnt being made right now. Im sure when Rusty gets it tweaked some more it will be available

Shoot man she usually is the one organising my shop and charging batteries so she can drive my scalers in the mud.. Crazy that she actually isnt too bad on equipment. She keeps changing the names in my 4PL as well. That will probably be the next purchase for this sporty...
