| Wait, that would actually be interesting, you could use low turn or brushless motors, but have the gear reduction to climb... I would just love to see axial do something different than the AX10 axle. They've been highly successul with it, but expanding their available options would be a smart move. If they go MOA, I think they need to do something that makes it better than the current MOA options, something to set them apart. I really think they should get into the Mini axles. They just need to shrink and tweak their current design, and they will have something to compete with the MRC. |

i dont really care WHAT it is. I just hope its to the benefit of all those whom comp w/ 2.2 axial. if Axial doesnt come up with the new tech to keep us compeitive, they might loose the 2.2 market. if axial came out with new axels, id buy them just because theyre axial. but then again, im not directed by profit margins... |

I was on axials webpage for the AX10 and they had a poll going for what people wanted to see next including, worm gears, MOA and a dig for the scorpion.

If I were running Axial, or at least the product development in the crawler section, I'd do the following: Make a dig for the AX10 transmission. There's a whole crap load of people with that trans that would love a factory dig. (I've got an idea for one, I'd love to help design. It would be bind free and have more than 20 points of engagement, as well as smaller than anything on the market now, able to shift with a low-torque servo.) Make some upgraded electronics; stronger servo, programmable ESC, open-can motors, etc. Make a few more metal upgrades; driveshafts, rod ends, etc. Update the Rock Lizards to a Comp Lizard, new tread pattern, sticky compounds. Contract or design a competition low cog chassis. Use the dig/trans combo, upgrade elecs, and some metal components in a Competition Ready Crawler, it would have: AX10 Axles, AX10 Trans with dig, Aluminum c's/knuckles/rear lockouts, driveshafts/yokes, rod ends, links, 4-link plates, Their new "mmm buttery smooth" shocks Minimum 200oz/in servo Programmable ESC with drag brake, capable of 3S lipo, with a strong enough BEC to handle the 2 servos 3Ch radio system (2.4 gHz?) with a 3 position 3rd channel Include heavy duty CVDs and BTA kit in package Weight replaceable wheels and selection of tire foams (think VP's wheels) New body styles, something to compete with the losi grappler body that a lot of winning drivers use. MSRP $500. (Street prices would be about $400ish maybe, maybe less) Also, if they go MOA, have a similarly equipped version so we could choose between shafty Now, why would Axial want to make a CRC? Well, let's see, what's the average price someone spends on a competition crawler? Probably 350 - 500 or more depending on their radio and other things. Of that half or less than half goes to Axial for the base kit/rtr/artr/rtc/naked axles. The rest of the money goes to the aftermarket. If they came out with some smarter products, they can retain some of the market share, and in effect make more money. Of course offer all these parts seperately for those to upgrade their current AX10 to a comp ready crawler. The radio system may be hard to include in the CRC, so if that's left out, I'm sure a lot of guys would look at switching. It seems that Axial's mission was to stay ahead of the curve, and when the AX10 came out, it was, but it's starting to stagnate, and a lot of money is going to the aftermarket. Now, I'm not advocating boycotting the aftermarket, this will sort of force them to innovate and come out with something even better than what Axial will come out with. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but if Axial wants more market share, they need to make something to upgrade to (beyond their current upgrades.) |

There's a heap of other dig units out on the market. I'm of the opinion that they won't bring one out as there is a probability its not as good as others already out, and thus they may not sell the quantity they need to justify it (commercially). Unless of course, it ran a slipper or cone clutch instead of a dog clutch and gave us proportional drive to the back! |

just before the Losi 1/10 hit the market I heard that Axial was about to come out with a tranny with F & R dig (like the Losi). I called them and the guy I spoke to in development didn't deny it and it sounded like either he didn't want to lie about it or he wanted me to believe that I was right about it. But, he told me that there would not be N E thing out before Christmas and maybe early next year. i think it's a front & rear dig tranny. just my 2 cents. |
