Default Axial SHOCK problems

Ok I know that I am not the only one with the shock problem of the tops poping off on my AX10 Scorpion. I cant even run mine over minor stuff with out poping the top loose. They all leak because even though they wont pop completly off they will pop loose one thread and thats enough to leak oil everywhere.

I want to hear everybody elses sugestions on fixes because these stock ones suck.

Super glue should work, but I have always used telon tape on nitro shocks to keep them from popping. A couple wraps will work.

could I be over filling them? I just toped it off with oil and put the cap back on and squeezed it with my fingers and the top poped off.

After reading about the stock shocks, I allready got a set of Traxxas Big Bore shocks as a replacement. They seem to be quite solid, especially compared to any plastic shocks.:-P

I have the rubber ones on them. They pop off even before it gets to the spacer.

thats what i am thinking. I will leave the oil below the top and the shock when compressed will not come back out then I get it to the top and it is very hard to push in. I guess I just need to find a happy medium.

well I put a little less oil in the fronts and put some WK springs on it an WOW much better. I dont get near the torque steer I did have. I still want some Alum. shocks. Because these are not the greatest. Isn't Axial supposed to come out with some alum shocks to fit the AX10??

I had the same problem. Please don't laugh. I had mounted the o rings on the outside of the shock body and tightened the cap down just enough to create a seal without pushing out the o-ring. The cap on one shock kept popping off. I decided to read the instructions. I put the o ring inside the cap and haven't had a problem since.

Default Bleed the shocks

I agree that too much oil is the most likely problem.

When you're building the shocks, pull the shaft all the way down to the bottom and fill the shock body to the top with oil. Pump the shaft a few times to get the air out from under the piston head and let the bubbles come to the surface. Top off with oil and thread the cap on maybe 1/2 or 1 turn - do not tighten it. Push the piston all the way to the top to bleed out the excess oil.

This next part is critical. Hold the shaft all the way in and tighten down the cap by hand. An easy way to do this is to push the shaft down onto your work surface while screwing the cap on. Get it as tight as you can with your fingers only. At this point, the shaft should slowly rebound out about half of its length. If it rebounds quickly to its full length, there is too much oil in the shock body. Unscrew the cap a few turns and pump the shaft a few times to bleed a little more oil, then tighten it back down. Repeat this process until the shaft rebounds properly.

Now that you are done bleeding the shock, you can tighten the cap down all the way. Grip the shock body with a rag and some pliers, and stick a screwdriver or allen key through the hole on the cap. Tighten down carefully, and you're done. Repeat for the other 3 shocks.

If you follow this process, you shouldn't have any more cap-popping issues.

Hey thanks that is what I am doing. Because when I push in the shock it rebounds VERY quickly.
Thanks. now to just solve this torque steer.

also be carefull, with the cap poping off all the time, I'm guessing that the plastic threads on the body and cap are thrashed, don't be surprised if they still leak, and be very careful not to overtighten them
