The video show two different scenarios. Which one is the one you are talking about?

r&p = ring & pinion

If you guys are having slop in the ring and pinion go buy some shims and properly shim things up. I have nearly none there because I came from racing where shimming a Diff can be the difference between a 30min A main win and a 5 minute A main failure.

Mine looks to be from the locker and the dogbone/axle stub.

I am also running Aluminum Ericksons...so no way its a stripped wheel or hex.

I was wondering about this myself and I think most of the side to side play is in the dog bone/hub shaft connection. If you remove the hub shafts and turn the dog bones there is hardly any play. Iv been trying to find something to put in between the connection to stiffen it up. Will let you know if I find something.

Default dog bones

the side to side play that is in the dogbones is easily fixed with a shim washer between the hex and the bearing ,the slots in the back of the aluminium hexes are not deep enough,if you put one of the cheesy plastic hexes in,and tighten it down the side to side play is gone, then remove it and mic the depth of the slot ,its now alittle deeper, the aluminium ones are made identical to the plastic ones ,but they dont have any give to them. thats my .02 . i have not opened up my diffs, but i suspect the play is also fixed with shims .just like a real pinion is shimmed to fit properly.

Im thinkin . But anyway, I tor my axles apart looking at this problem and I was wrong. The side to side slop is coming from the locker (just like crawls said). the dog bone/hub shaft connection is very tight. just need to fit something into the slots where the dog bones enter the locker and tighten it up. Also probably just put a washer behind the pinion and that will tighten that up. On my ax-10 the R&P's are far more loose than the lockers.

hmmm. thats interesting. I got about a half inch of locker play and a whopping 1/4 turn of the tires in the R&P . Im trying to figure out what to shove in the locker holes to tighten it up. I was thinkin I could jerry rig it and shove some little pieces of cardboard in them or something but the play would probably come back after they get flattened. Im trying to think of something alittle more permanent. A few small pieces of small gauge bailing wire or something. the R&P is an easy fix.
