You sure its just the axle? I notice about the same, but if you grab 1 wheel and turn the other the driveshaft also spins some, not sure but it might be the ring/pinion causing the slop in the gears.

Hey INDY...
I have the same slop in my AX10!
I'd say also it's in the ring & pinion OR the green locker???
Been wanting to look into it more BUT waiting for some upgrades to make the opening worth while!!! LOL
Heavy duty Ring and Pinion are coming out soon along with CVD's from what I hear.

I believe 90% of it is between the axle/stub shaft/hex so CVD's will be the fix for this

its the ring and pinion in the diff..

thats why axial made the upgraded bevel gear set..(not released yet)

that's what axial says

The ring and pinion have nothing to do with the amount of play 'through' the axle from one side to the other. Want proof? Pull the axle apart, remove the pinion and reassemble the entire axle. Now check the amount of play... same as before!

Having said that, there can be a lot of slop in the ring and pinion, but that is easily reduced by shimming the pinion back towards the ring gear a bit. As a bonus, less slop = more tooth mesh = stronger!

On mine, the slop looks to be mostly in the dogbone / drive cup on each side, and a very little bit at the spool. So like HauntFreaks.com said, when we have CVDs, (and you shim the pinion) most of the slop will be gone!

I have cvd axles in my wheely king and the slop is still there. It really isnt that big of a deal for me though.

In fact, my WK with cvd's has more "slop" than my stock axial axles

It's very easy to pinpoint... Just look right at the dogbone/drivecup/hex points and see if you have slop in those points...
On mine, I can turn the hexs/drivecups/dogbones WITHOUT seeing ANY slop... They all are tight showing the slop is internal...
leaving diff lock &/or ring and pinion.

Default dogbones

i have 2 of these trucks and the play in both trucks is between the dogbones where the axle fits in .they are all the same i know several people with these, not one is any different.

i looked into it closer and i say its not the dogbones.. after further investigation i still think the ring and pinion have something to do with it, but most of it is the locker..

on my rig the dogbones are still nice and snug.. IMO, the slop between two tires is the locker..the slop with both tires is the ring and pinion..

make sense??

I guess there's two kinds of slop at play here...

One would be through the axle from one side to the other. That's what I figured tat2INDY was talking about when he said 'I have over a quarter turn in mine.' The ring and pinion have nothing to do with that. The fit of the axles in the spool, and the fit of the spool in the diff cup will be minor factors here. Or at least they are on mine where most of the slop is in the dogbones.

The other would be through the driveline... from the driveshaft out. If we're talking about that kind, then yes the ring and pinion mesh is definitely involved.

If you are by chance talking about 1/4 turn at the wheel, you might want to check your wheels to, they have a reputation for stripping and they might be on their way there
