Default Broken axle

So I was installing overdrive gear last night, when I put the diff cover on I broke three of the four mounting points. Should I replace it with a metal axle or just buy the plastic replacement. I've already got a samix diff cover and portal boxes so I don't think I need any extra weight, but I could always take some quick off when I swap over. What are your guys thoughts? Do metal axles slide like plastic?

Plastic slides better.

Do you want to spend $250 on an (VP) axle housing? or $12 for a stock replacement? Id go for a stock replacement unless you already had your heart set on an Alloy housing.

I agree. I never got the metal axle thing. Nor the $35 metal diff cover to protect the $12 axle......that takes a way a few mm of clearance and doesn't slide as well over obstacles.

I use metal diff covers because they usually look much better and have a better shape that lowers the chance of getting snagged on the rocks. A lot of stock diff covers have a flat ridge that can snag easily.

SSD's are only around $20

plastic slides way better than any metal
pot metal slides better than aluminum
the problem i had with plastic axles when it gets hot out side the housing flexes and the gears loose there teeth
my ssd axle housings dont have that problem im really bummed they discontinued there d60 centered pumpkin axles that was my go to rear axle for years now

axial branded axles are junk i would find a reputable aftermarket plastic axle if you want to keep it light or potmetal if you like your rigs more on the heavy side
vanquish axles are kinda funny there aluminum but its vary hard so it slides like pot metal but is light like plastic but i personaly think pot metal axles still slide better
in my opinion the vanquish axles should only be installed on a shelf queen there just too perddy to screw up on the rocks heck they dont even need a.rig they look so good lol

Humboldt, if I was gonna buy a metal axle it would be one of the cheapies of Amazon, kyx or one of the others.
I appreciate everybody responding. Sounds like a plastic axle it is. Does anybody know of there are other plastic housings out there, not made by axial?

check out the supershafty housing. it's cheaper than a VP and looks just as good IMO.

Lostone, I appreciate the input.
After spendinging some time looking at it, I decided there's no way that the little tiny piece that broke off, is what holds everything together. I turned my work bench upside down, and finally found the screws that came with the diff cover(they're longer than stock). It's back to operational.
Are there aftermarket plastic housings? Is that a thing?
