Default Bomber as U4RC. Experiences, set ups, tips and tricks.

How many of you have set up your Bomber primarily as a U4 racer?

How has your experience been with broken parts? How does it handle? What have you changed about your setup? Any Tips or Tricks you've picked up along the way?

Fair. Mostly broke a servo in 14 minutes at the track

Pretty well after 12 hours of mods. Before that, makes a better crawler.

My lips are sealed.

Try to get he suspension to work as well as an IFS. Inrease your suspension travel as much as you can while lowering the center of gravity.

See you at the track tomorrow.

Ed I think some of that are the spring rates of the stock shocks, but it does need to be lower.

Just ripped off the ears of my servo in the race yesterday... at least is only $6 a new case. I might look for servo clamp or something like it.

My shocks was way too stiff, definitely lower the oil wt from 40 to 20.
Thinking in get the prolines power stroke from the slash (front and rear) to lower even more the bomber...

Metal cased servo. Savox 1283 has been holding up to my abuse for a long time now. The Holmes servo and the Proteks are also metal cased. There's more out there, but those seem to be the popular ones.

Low, proper shocks (and time/effort tuning) and a sway bar. Night and day.

I'm running low as I can:

I'm debating get the 1283. I have the 1270 which is faster stronger and water resistant.
Maybe if I get only the casing of the 1283 can be the way to go

Water resistant is a relative term. I've never had a problem, no waterproofing or anything. Just looked back at pictures, I got the 1283 in October of 2014, and I run my truck 4 or 5 hours a week.

Both parts of the 1283 case are different, it's all silver. I went through like 5 1230 fronts before I gave up. Split long ways, or ripped the ears off.

Good to know. I'm in the PNW, all my electronics need to handle rain, otherwise will be a shelf queen.
1283 it is.
Looks like I have a 1270 spare for my yeti... or maybe sell it locally.

My HS-7980TH just died, I think water damage as the gears are fine and the motor spins, it just only locks left. And only used a handful of times and not fully submerged. So going back to the WR-7701 servo, and if I can get a replacement Hitec under warranty I will be conformal coating it for sure, an expensive servo thats supposed to be water resistant yet didn't handle a few splashes...

These RCBros servo clamps really help with that. Spreads out the load on the ears.

Sent to their UK service centre today, let's hope their UK support is as good as the USA support everyone praises.

What shocks/oil are you using?

Slash Powerstrokes, fronts in the front, rears in the rear. Blue over Green springs front, Yellow over Green rear. 20wt front, 30wt rear.

Front shocks are in the front hole of the rear mount on top, outboarded on the link mounts on bottom.

Rear shocks in rear hole of front mount on top, middle hole on the VP trailing arm.

Just a little preload on the RR to help with torque twist, along with the Axial Bomber rear sway bar set.

Dlux servo mount in the front, all tabs/mounts/plastic cut away until both axles uptravel until the whole housing hits the chassis.

As said above, you need to maximize uptravel. Remove anything that touches, including the rear Wraith style sway bar mounts. I'll get some picks at full bump in a minute.

Maximize uptravel. Axles and shocks bottom out at the same time. Lower links flat at ride height.

Rear

Front

Ride height

Outboard front shocks. This is a game changer, seriously.

I'm tired of the leaky (and ugly) stock shocks. Just got a power stroke slash combo.

Why?
in theory the shock is closer to the wheel, so it will behave if had a higher dampening and less travel. That's what you looked for?
