Default nfcrockett's RR10 Bomber Build

I finally got some parts in for my Bomber build. I started with electronics. I'd like to see how the stock parts hold up to the brushless power, I think it will be entertaining.

We should take bets on what'll be first to grenade. I'm thinking the dog bones.

I'm going to bet the ring/s and pinion/s.

Alright, a lot of progress made tonight. The MMX and pro4hd have found their home! I forgot how much fun it is to do a complete overhaul. It's been awhile since I built my yeti kit. Install vid on the way.

I'll go with wheel hubs.

Kind of a pain making adjustments, testing, making adjustments, testing and repeat. I have been removing the rear shocks, sway bar and the 6 screws for the skid, keeping the front 2 chassis screws in creating a hinge. Took a wraith link and made a kick stand.

Why did I never think to swivel the chassis up out of the way??

I do wish the bomber had the easy access like yeti xl

Well the plan was to post a step by step install video, that didn't happen. Editing didn't go as planned but any how here are the electronics installed below. During the initial run I noticed I wasn't getting any low end resolution and no where near the torque or speed I get from the yeti, which has the same motor. With the yeti I get buttery smooth low end and all the torque and speed I need. So after tearing the trans apart and rebuilding multiple times, it turns out it's the motor. I tore the motor apart, checked bearings and cleaned. Still the same issue. I assume replacing the rotor may fix the issue. However, I opted to replace the motor entirely. It wasn't easy to decide between another pro4 or a puller pro xl. In the end I decided on another pro4, maybe next time on the puller pro. Future plans include powerstrokes, maddogrc led lights and some vp goodies. Possibly another build after seeing DMG's IS build!

Here's a quick video testing out the MadDogRC LED's. I installed the 2 single pods and 2 4" light bars using a mount I 3D printed and of course the VP 1" light bar. Needless to say it's awesome running at night. I'll review my LED setup in an upcoming video.

Here's the latest update on my bomber build. I got the lighting sorted out. Hopefully I'll get some run time tonight and put the lights to use.

Default Re: nfcrockett's RR10 Bomber Build: Powerstroke Shocks

Got the powerstrokes mounted. Originally I installed slash rears and xt's. I didn't like the ride height and also the springs on the xt's rubbed the shock bodies too much for my liking. So, I robbed the slash fronts off of my exo and moved the slash rears to the back. Just what I was looking for in ride height. The slash fronts have a lot more room to compress before bottoming out. I used blue springs up front. In the rear, I used red top springs and red springs from the slash front spring assortment kit. As far shock oil, I used 10 wt front and rear. The bomber currently is very light, so the 10wt provided plenty of dampening. I forgot to mention this in the video but since the fronts compress more, you will need to make clearance adjustments. Originally I cut back part of the front bumper to allow the servo horn to clear. However, my front light bar was still in the way. So, I purchased a DCW dewanger the move the servo back. This allowed the servo horn to clear the lightbar. I also threw on my bfg krawler t/a's, which have CI foams installed. With the shocks and foams, I'm able to really see what the bomber has without the stocks foams folding in and launching into a never ending cartwheel. The bomber loves to getting air time. I'm really happy with weight distribution, no more nose diving as with the yeti. I don't know how but I have yet to break any of the stock parts. On the other hand the links are starting to get pretty flimsy, as expected. The front steering links really need to go. With that said expect the links to get replaced in the near future. I'm really having a fun time with this build. I like seeing that stock bomber parts can hold up pretty well. With the yeti it was an immediate money pit, regardless I enjoyed upgrading it.

I'm planning on going to axialfest this year. Since the bomber seems to be pretty reliable right out of the box, the girlfriend may get her own to drive at axialfest. Anyway, looking forward to axialfest and another bomber!

I received my rear light bar mount from shapeways. I just need to make a few tweaks and it should be available shortly. It's a little dirty from today's testing.

I like how you used the Yeti light cover over the light bar.... nice touch.

It's actually a housing I designed and 3d printed to fit over the gearhead light bar. It mounts using the available 4 mounting holes on the bomber. I'll post some pictures with it next to the yeti/exo light bar

Is that rear light bar mount available yet? And what did you use to clamp around the cage to hold the filler tube up?

I plan on selling these. I'm currently testing materials.

I'm currently testing materials. For the filler tube, I used a cable clamp. I'd like to design something more scale though.

I may be able to get you guys some prototypes. I'll have more progress by next week.
