Default Titan 21T, Which Rotation?

Picked up a factory sealed bomber kit today on ebay for $300 shipped. I'm on a budget so I'm looking at running the traxxas 21t 550 with the new 1080 hobbywing crawler esc.

My question is traxxas offers two rotations for the 21t 550 motor, which one do I need?

Normal rotation is fine. Either works, would just have to reverse polarity if the truck is going the opposite way.

oo so I guess traxxas just labels them differently because of how the bullet connectors are soldered...

Honestly, just go with a sensored brushless setup.

I run this esc https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbykin...ensorless.html

and a turnigy trackstar 17.5t 1870KV motor on 3s.

The ESC never gets more than luke warm even without the fan attached after 1.5hrs of bashing.

Total cost for the ESC, Motor, and usb adapter to program the esc was 78 shipped and its SOOOOO much better than any brushed setup

I was wearing out 21t titans every 2 weeks or so. Cheap /= cheap when you have to replace it constantly, throw away motors are throw away for a reason.

As said above, just go brushless. I would have been hundreds ahead if I just bit the bullet and bought what I wanted up front.

Do you think it was because it was a Traxxas motor, because holmes makes a 550.

I don't have money for a proper brushless sensored setup right now. I could do a sensorless setup like a 3800kv castle, but then I wouldn't be able to crawl. That's why I'm looking at brushed.

If you are talking about the HH Trailmaster Sport 550 for 20$, I would imagine it wouldn't like 3S power for too long. I burned out 3-4 traxxas 550 titans also. That was running 3s tho, they will last longer on 2S power.

I would guess the HH 550 is from the same source as Traxxas 550 titan. And if not from the same source then its an apples to apples motor to traxxas.

Are you planning on running a 2S or 3S battery?

Seriously, see my post above.

75ish bucks for a programmable sensored ESC and motor that has better fedelity to be able to crawl than any brushed setup i have ever ran, runs cooler, runs longer, and runs faster than any brushed setup i have used in the bomber.

Dont fall into the game of needing the 100 dollar sensored motor and 200 dollar esc...

I will look into that. I think I'd want to get a motor closer to 3000kv

The trackstar motors are 2 pole or 4 pole? I can't find where it says.

Brushed motors certainly have their place, I just don't feel that place is in a Bomber. Pushing past walking pace you will go through motors, or be performing constant maintenance.

A budget sensored brushless system is a much better option. The Bomber isn't a true crawler, it's too low and fat. You need a bit of oomph to make it fun, something a brushless system is great at. I've had good luck with hobbywing in my onroad stuff, if I wasn't so invested in castle I wouldn't hesitate to give their crawler stuff a shot.

I ended up getting a hobbywing 3656sd 3400kv sensored sct pro combo for $133 shipped. I ran this in my Yeti and was pretty happy with it....now I just need to figure gearing...
