Default How To Make My SCX10 Honcho More Rockworthy?

Guys,

any info on making our SCX10 more capable for rock crawling without the rollover fest? I have some basic knowledge about rock crawling from my past AX-10, like putting weights on each wheels, lower the CoG, battery in front etc. But with this chassis, man...everything is so limited and I have to maintain appearance as well. Any ideas? Especially on shock setup...

Thanks in advance

Besides what Murky posted a higher turn motor and a crawling ESC with a drag brake will help smooth the power and get you more low end torque.

thanks, 2.2 tires are not allowed in the competition, so I stuck with 1.9s...I ditched the stock shocks, running traxxas aluminum shocks now with droop setup...still not satisfied

Thanks, I'm running 17.5T with drag brake equipped ESC. My main problem now is rollover, how to eliminate or at least reduce that?

Widening your stance will help a lot. You can try some wider hex's. You also can move your shocks to the outside. Like this.

17.5? Are you brushless? I run a 45t on mine. Higher the turns the better power for crawling.
Lower CG will help reduce roll overs. Where do mount your battery?

Look into a set of overdrive gears for the front axle and a set of under-drive for the rear. it will make the truck much more manageable on the rocks and eliminate a bunch of torque twist that tends to pitch the front end and change the COG that causes roll overs, weight the fronts like mentioned before and continue to work on those shocks.

Yup, pulled from my HPI Blitz. I mount my battery in front, on the stock mount but without those tall spacers.

Any shots of the rig? That would really help.

how are your electronics and battery located on the chassis?

try to place the heavy stuff in the front and the lighter stuff in the back.

if you do not care for long runtimes you can try to get a small lipo ( helicopter style )
those are not heavy

I also had the traxxas bigbores but i do not like them. im still in the learning process about shocks but the losi shocks are much better and smoother .

I have some losi shocks from the losi XXX-T

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but BB's are the best weight for the front wheels along with some "star" cut foams. I ran this setup on my WK crawler with 2.2's and liked it, but I havnt run a 1.9 yet.

I just use stick on weights and never cut stars into my foam. This is hand down the best foams on the market.

Sweet and sick looking truck! What shocks are you running? And what is the purpose of those vertical links on both sides of your rear axle?

The vertical links on the rear axle look like antiswaybar links.

I run Traxxas big bores with a cap mod on hear. The springs where the stock reds.

The vertical links are sway bars.

And they're connected from the axle to? What shock oil weight for the front shocks and the rear shocks? And which piston? Thanks
