will a TITAN 12T motor work in an all stock honcho kit?

I have 2 of these traxxas TITAN 12T motors laying around, and I was wondering if I can use them for an all stock (including spur & pinion gears) original honcho kit? Can the honcho kit handle such a low turn motor without any modifications?

Axial claims the turn limit on the AE-2 is 19t, so you'll more than likely burn it up with a 12t motor... maybe not right away, but it would happen...

now a 21t Titan would be fine (the Wraith's come with a 20t on the same AE-2 ESC)




but at the same time they also claim it's only 2s lipo compatible and people run 3s on them all the time, so who knows, lol

I have the honcho kit version, not RTR. It doesn't come with any electronics. I will be using the newest XL-5 esc to date, with the LVD (same as LVC?).

I can't speak for the stock Axial ESC, but I ran a 12t Titan in my SCX10 controlled by a Castle Sidewinder. It worked, but crawled pretty poorly so I removed it.

i run a Titan motor in my high lift with an xl-5 an its spot on! was thinking of doin the same in my Honcho ive just built an still yet to run

Will it work? YES
Is it great for crawling? NO WAY!
Can you get away with it for a while? SURE... But it's definitely not the best way to go!

I ran the Titan 12t in my rig with the XL-5 ESC and I really like the wheelspeed but hated the lack of torque that's needed for crawling.
Also didn't much care for the super short run times I was getting with that setup... It would kill a 5000mah NiMh battery within 30 minutes!!

NOT RECOMMENDED... but it'll do for a while!

I've put 3 Titan 12t in my honcho rtr. Now granted I run 2.2s with weight in wheels also. I burned all 3 motors up in maybe 3 battery packs! I have a HPI racing 15t that is going in it now. We will see how that works. I think the lack of torque and the fact I try to crawl with it is what did them in. I have even run them at low rpms for about 10-15 mins to help seat the brushes.

I'd go with the axial 20t from the wraith.

I'm on my 3rd titan 12t with the traxxas esc. Love the speed for crawling and mud bogging but seems it over heats if I try to go slow and crawl with it. I've tried several different pinions. Think its 14 and 87 right now. It trashed the plastic drive shafts pretty quick. I've got MIP shafts now.

Great for hill climbing too. Loose sand hills can bring on some sweet 4 wheel rooster tails.

Have been running the same Titan 12t every weekend since September on trail runs and crawling, including water (at least 2-3 5000mah 2s packs each session) with no issues. 14:87 gearing and XL5. No heat. Very happy with wheel speed and low speed. Going to try AE2 with bec tomorrow with some drag brake.

This is the setup I just put in mine. I haven't run it yet, but I caught a bunch of flak when I was trying to see if anyone else had any experience with it (apparently it's not scale enough for them ).

Are you running 1.9" or 2.2", and what diameter tires are you running?

I had the stock trans and I had the brxl as my esc all I did was climb 1 ledge and there it went I only liked it for the speed and doing donuts

So the 14t pinion and 87t spur? BRXL? The Velineon ESC or...? Was the motor hot or had it just up and died- also was it new or pulled from another model?

Seems as if this motor may be a 50/50 chance as to whether it lives or dies.

Nice. We've got almost the exact same setup (4.45" tires compared to my 4.5") except I have a 19t pinion. I like the performance of Bender's prerunner and he's got a 23t pinion. Got the 19t with the motor so I figure I'll see how I like that. Also have the 14t that came with the kit.

Correct a 12t will almost double the speed of stock honco. NO TORQUE THO!

I have a 12t in my truck. stock esc too. heard of other people puttin 'em in stock wraiths without a problem. But just a heads up: be prepared to replace the tranny gears with robinson racing ones...
