running 2.2 tires on a scx10 is it worth running 2.2 tires on a scx10, it looks awesome but does it do anything for performance |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 I ran PL Hammers on mine, the added ground clearance and extra width helped alot over the stockers. I wanted a more scale-ish look and picked up some Rox Lox (1.9) which are about the same height as Hammers. But it's your rig, run what you like "thumbsup". |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 what wheels did you run on your scx10 for the 2.2s |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 Stock AX-10 beadlocks, just cuz I had them laying around. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 ok i think those r the ones i read that will work on that setup |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 like said before do what makes you happy if you think you would like it try it, see how it works if you dont like it go to something different! its all about what you like in this hobby do it for you buddy and then run it y-d-open ha ha"thumbsup""thumbsup" |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 2.2's will fit on the stock honcho wheels the 1.9's ? |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 im running 2.2 TSL/SX on honcho.. you'll have to lift the body or cut the body. no 2.2 tires wont fit on 1.9 wheels. im running the rockstar rims, they come in black or chrome. the stock ax10 wheels and stock scx10 honcho wheels are the same. but you have to buy a set of 2.2 wheels if you want to run 2.2 tires. i've also ran a set of 2.2 hammers on my truck and they are ok.. they are a smaller tire though.. personally im very glad i went to a 2.2 tire, i can take lines that i never could on my 1.9's.. they give you more ground clearance, wider tire, lots of sidewall rubber. always got hung up on rocks with my 1.9's and i can take the same line and not get hung up.. you can run any 2.2 wheel on the honcho as long as they have a 12mm wheel hex but watch the offset too.. i only have ran the rockstar's and the stock ax10/scx10 wheels. here's my setup, because i had to cut so much out of the body i made some inner fenderwells from a margarine container to hide the electronics. http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM1286-1.jpg |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 Another option is running a longer shock. This can limit up travel and keep the tires off of the body. I used some Wraith shocks with slightly trimmed Honcho body to fit 2.2 Ripsaws. http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...21-00190-1.jpg |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 The way i look at it (not saying it looks bad or anything) is that 2.2s are made for more scale comp buggies or something to that extent. If your running in lots of snow or mud, yes, the 2.2s will help. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 1 Attachment(s) heres a pic of my honcho on 2.2 going with axial beadlocks when they show but this is just a mock up |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 1 Attachment(s) I like my 2.2's. Like others have said it is necessary to trim the body or lift thenbody. (I recommend trim.. lower COG) However, I don't think I can go back the 2.2's definitely improve the performance of the truck it can go many places the same setup with 1.9's cannot. For me 2.2 is the way to go. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 i called axial today and it has to be the rockstars or 8 hole wheels because they have a different offset then the wraith wheels the wraith wheels will hit the suspension....im going to get the rockstars in black chrome |

Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 they're close. if you look at my previous post in this thread that is a stock scx10 honcho beadlock. got bored and since i just bought a set of sedona's for my ax10 and got them mounted i wanted to see what they looked like. here is a stock ax10 beadlock. http://i978.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/HPIM1455.jpg jdacus- i'll take my rig the same place you do and i'll have way less troubles than you. running 2.2's compared to 1.9's is like night and day. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 I love my 2.2 TSL's. It does take away fom the scale look as mentioned however I feel the increased mobility is worth it. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 i ran 2.2 for a while, but didnt like them, but im a fan of a more scale look, if you want it to perform better, go with them, if you want it to look more scaleish stay with some tall 1.9's i run irok's and they work great compared to the stockers and look great also! |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 Scx10 1.9 wheels use the narrow 12 mm hex....ax10 wheels use the wider hex with a center nub. 2.2 PL hammers on the honcho, 2.2 HB rovers on the ax10.....and 1.9 ripsaws on my boy's ax 10....yup he wants his wheels back! |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 I wanting 2 put some 2.2 rock claws on rock wheels |

1 Attachment(s) 2.2's kick butt.. I'm running losi claws on rockstars with Venom lock rings and my honcho crawls like a ax10.. Makes it a wicked trail truck.. Notice I said "Trail Truck" not "scale truck". For me it's all about fun more than actual real life looks. Attachment 185717 Sent from my highly abused iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 I like the 2.2's on mine,but I did pick up a 2nd SCX-10 and I run 1.9's on it. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...1-24-12023.jpg Here's the build thread for my 2.2 rig....http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial...cx-honcho.html |

Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 2.2's are fine and I run them occasionally for the bigger rock, but....most events will only allow a "Scale" 2.2 tire, Ripsaws, Swampers, Pitbulls.. They wont allow a Rover, Rock Claw, Hammers, etc on your "Scale truck." |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 My proline hammers are scale...they are like 49 inch tires!! Oh well I think they look ok and make the truck more trail/rock ready. Just be ready to do some trimming. Maybe some pics later? |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 i am not a fan of the look of 2.2 tires on a scale truck they tend to be to wide also if the size is all you are worried about use some 1.9 put bulls or rc4wd Mickey Thompson ttc tires. they will have the size most 2.2's have and the look they don't. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 2 Attachment(s) My rig looks more scale w 2.2's "thumbsup" 1.9 wheels look way to small for it. When I was running a shorter wheelbase, 2.2 Mud Slingers were perfect. I actually bought the larger ProLine Slash bug body yesterday, it should fit the new longer wb and Pitbull tires even better. |
Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 I've done the 1.9 to 2.2, 1.9 to 2.2 thing. After experimenting ,I think the 1.9's, due to less un-sprung weight and just plain less mass do better actually than 2.2's on a SCX anyways. Rok-Lox in a 1.9 measure as tall as a lot of 2.2's but weight less, yes, the contact-patch is less but at least they look scale. Using a 1/8th scale tire on a 10th scale makes it easy. It takes skill to do what a 2.2 rig will do on 1.9's. |

Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 Sure wish the2.2 ripsaws were a bit shorter. |
Went the 2.2 tsl and tcs extenders to widen the stance. 6oz in the front and 3oz in the back. Best setup I have ever ran. Wide tall and planted! http://img.tapatalk.com/ce6d3cb6-d965-b1d4.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/ce6d3cb6-d973-b034.jpg |

Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 So can you guys list off some 1.9's that LOOK like 2.2's? Im gonna stick to 1.9's but i want a bigger tire than the ripsaws. |
How does. 1.9 look like a 2.2? There quite a bit diff in size.. |

Re: running 2.2 tires on a scx10 the only problem I see with my pitbulls 2.2 is that the body will rub all over...I will have to hack it down a bit and then it wont look as scale...i'm trying to figure out a way to fit a cab in front and the honcho cage in the back! and I just got a twin motor plate from 3 level...that baby will have tork! |
