What batteries are best for the stock rtr setup and if I was to run a lipo what specific changes would need to be done?

well stock Esc that comes with the RTR is rated up to a 2s lipo i believe "dont quote me" but depending on your battery of choice you may have the switch the connector on your truck to a deans connectors, some batteries come with addapters that plug straight into the tamiya style plug thats comes on these trucks, its really going to depend on which batterey you get, hope this answers your question feel free to ask any more!

If you have the second generation ESC then it can take 2s liipo or 3s with an external BEC.
I use gens-ace 1550 packs. they are small and light and fit in a leatherman belt-pouch for carrying on the trail. Goofing around with the guys I get about 2 hours from one, or on a long-distance trail drive they last about 45 min.

Just watch your motor temp. If it gets too hot, gear down.
