where do people buy the electronics boxs?

Ive seen a few people buy small plastic boxes and mount them on either side of the trans on the rails. What do u use and where do u get them from? I went to micheals, and another craft store but couldnt find them. If u have pics, could u post them? thanks

An alternative is a box that a servo came in ie. hitec, savox, etc.

use the screws that hold the rock rails to hold them down thats how i have mine held down

I bought mine at " The Source" it's the Canadian equivalent to radio shack.. The stores look identical..
I know you can order online as well..
I make a plate from aluminum and screw it to the rock rails.. Then apply Velcro to the plate and the project box. Holds really well and make working on the truck a breeze when you can remove the electronics in 30 seconds.

Here's how I used mine.






They were attached with servo tape but that started to give up after a few trips, our trips are usually about 4 hours though. But I just put a zip tie on and they never went anywhere.
You have to cut a notch for you wires to run through but they work well. I do notice the box with the ESC does get pretty warm though.

You could use a waterproof food container, I wouldn't use anything else now.

I used the box that my Savox servo came in. I had to cut a half inch out of the center section and then put the box back together to get it to fit where I wanted it to fit. I then coated it in liquid electrical tape. Its water tight after you close it up and silicone it. It works, but its not as pretty as those boxes every one uses. If you have a servo box and the liquid electrical tape, then its a nice free option. If you have to buy the liquid electrical tape or silicone, then buy the box instead because having to either one or both (silicone and liquid electrical tape) will put you over the cost of one of those boxes easily. If I would have known how much those boxes cost and where to find them, then I just would have bought a couple.

I don't get it... why would you box your stuff if it's not for waterproofing? all it does is make things more difficult to work on, and give your esc less airflow, potentially causing heat problems.

what's not to get? protection/waterproofing is really the only reason to put the electronics inside, because as you've stated there are some downsides. it's also a much cleaner alternative to balloons and other devices when you're trying to fit your stuff into an already cramped space. those tupperware/food container setups seem nice and roomy if you have space for them in your rig.

I used 2 of the larger 4"x2"x1" boxes so i could fit a switch on the end of each one (power and lights). ALSO, remember to buy a couple 2-3" servo extension wires and LED extensions before you start installing your electronics into them. will make life much easier should you need to unplug something for whatever reason
