| Dingo Link Lengths
Im building links for my cherokee using revo ends and all thread and tubing, what are the lengths of the lower links? I figure that dingo has the same wheel base as the cherokee.

The alum upgrade kit has 91mm links for the lowers, not including the rod ends. Actually, the Dingo is a tad shorter than the Cherokee. I went with 87.5mm lowers (not including rod ends) for the Dingo to have the wheels line up with the wheel wells properly, but the upgrade kit works fine for the Cherokee.

I have 79mm long links without measuring the rod ends. I am using revo rod ends and have it set right at dingo wheelbase.

Hi, I'm converting a Honcho to a Dingo. I made 87.5mm lowers and 79mm uppers and used Revo ends. With the Dingo shell on, the rear wheels still look too far back. :( The front wheels are too far forward too with the stock links, but I see in the manual that the Honcho fronts are 98mm, whereas the Dingo fronts are 91mm. I'll make some fronts up tonights and see how it looks. I think I am going to have to take another 10mm out of the rears to get the wheels lined up a bit btter with that arches. One thing I need to clarify is when I say 87.5mm for the lowers and 79mm for the uppers, I am talking the distance from the base of one rod end to the other, not the length of the piece of rod. Thanks for the pics Bubba! ) Is this what you guys mean with your measurements? Thanks in advance... Ben. Last edited by morphias; 06-25-2012 at 10:25 PM. | |

OK. Now that I have had a few days to catch up on some sleep, I have figured out where I went wrong. Note to self: don't make links when you have only had 5hrs sleep over a 48hr period! ;) As stated, the stock lower link length is 115mm eye-to-eye. If you use the Revo ends with a 91mm rod (that is 91mm between the bases of the rod ends) you end up with a link that is 125mm eye-to-eye due to the Revo ends being longer than the Axial ones. A difference of 10mm. I found that I the threaded rod goes ~6mm into the Revo ends. So, if you are using Revo ends, you need to cut your threaded rod to 93mm if you want to make links exactly the same as what you would get if you bought the Axial metal short links upgrade kit. Given that the Axial links don't make the wheels line up correctly (as stated by Solitaire), you will actually want to cut your rods to 90.5mm (or 90mm to make things easier - when you cut it and clean up the ends, it will not be exact anyway - you just adjust the length by winding a bit more into or out off the rod ends). As for the top links, 79-80mm is apparently the go - but, no-one says whether this is for 91mm, or 87.5mm lower links, so lets assume this is for 91mm ones. For these, you will need to cut your threaded rod to 81mm. This will cover both lengths, you just wind it a bit more of less into the rod end to get the desired length. I will be correcting mine tonight and will post an update, so the length of the cuts for top links may come down a little. As for your sleeves, I would mock assemble the threaded rod and ends on the car, get everything looking right and then measure the distance of the exposed rod - this will give you the length you need to cut your sleeves to. I hope this helps others out as I have found the whole process interesting and a little frustrating due to a lot of incomplete and conflicting advice. Ben. Honestly I didn't measure mine...I just made the upper/lower links as shown without the sleeve until I got the axle looking right and clocked the way I wanted it and then made sleeves to fit |

***UPDATED AGAIN - DIFF PINION ANGLE WAS TOO EXTREME - 6mm added to uppers to correct this*** Quick update: Here are the final lengths I used - all lengths are the actual lengths of the material: Lowers - Front and Rear Rod: 92mm Tube: 80mm Uppers - Front and Rear Rod: 88mm Tube: 76mm Ben. Last edited by morphias; 07-06-2012 at 06:37 PM. Reason: Corrected upper link lengths to correct diff pinion angle. |

And thats the other part of the equation, hard to make end-all be-all measurements. There are alot of different 4 link plates/brackets. Clocking the axles until the pinion angle is acceptable and using some type of accurate measuring device to get an eye-to-eye measurement has worked for me. |
