Default SCX10 Honcho dual motor/Land Rover Build

I wanted to turn my Honcho into a Land Rover whilst keeping the 113mm Wheelbase, and also upgrading to dual motors. I'll post some pictures and welcome any questions!

Good Luck with the build!! I went the dual motor route and its fun and cool to say you have but there are single motors that will work just as well. What do you plan for running as far as elevtronics?

Thanks! Eectronics wise I've gone with the RC4WD Outcry ESC for dual motors, which I've mostly heard positive things about. I still had the stock Axial transmitter and receiver but I soon paid the price when I went to test it, the radio had some interference so with the forward and reverse having a mind of its own the front output shaft of the gearbox snapped off. I am now upgrading to the Spektrum DX3E and also the Robinson Racing idler gear and outdrive gear for the tranny.

With the single 27t motor I had no problems with the stock radio apart from the odd bit of interference... I've gone with 2 55t Axial motors at the minute but I'm open to change motors once I see how it runs.

This is my Honcho before any major mdifications

Definitely! After my first test which snapped the front output shaft for the front wheels I tried it with just rear wheel drive in the house, the tyres gripped the carpet so much you could hear it gripping. With the 55t motors it will be quite slow, but traction and torque should be improved greatly from a single 27t motor. I'm having to put it on hold whilst I do my uni exams, but once I've installed the 2.4ghz radio and beefed up the transmission it should be ready to use and hopefully won't break anything.

I can imagine I remember years ago we built a twin engine tmaxx that made way too much power for its own good.

Wow, to be fair a twin engine nitro car would be something else! But at least with this its not uncontrollable or ridiculous power, it should be useful power.

Great looking build! I looked into the Outcry ESC but the lack of a lipo cutoff kept me from going with it. I ended up going with the TorqueMaster BR-XL.

Yeah I would say thats the only downside to the Outcry, but I figured if I'm careful battery wise I should be fine.

You can get a Lipo Alarm so that you dont damage the battery. Ive used this one before
HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : On Board Lipoly Low Voltage Alarm (2s~4s)

I have one in my FlySky since I have the lipo mod

Im very interested in this.. I wanted to try two 55t motors and put huge pinions on them.. thereby getting the moderate speed with less load on each motor, but tons of torque from them. Does it work that way? can you overgear these motors if there is two of them? I wanted to do it just to have two motors incase one quits while on a long trail ride..

I would imagine so yes, I have 14t pinions fitted at the moment but I think I'll put 20t's back on them.. Judging by the amount of torque two of them will have I think a very big pinion would work. What size are you thinking?

20T pinions. I run 20/87 in my Honcho with 47T lathe motor, 3s lipo and FXR....works great all around.

FYI, your wheelbase appears to be more than 113mm as in your first post.

Sounds good, I think I'll put my 20t pinions back on!

Interesting that you say that about my wheelbase, although when I replaced the plastic links with aluminium all round they were all exactly the same length as the originals.. I'll have to measure it and see. I'll post a picture up when I do but it'll be on the 21st because I'm away from home at the minute.

They've been pretty good! The only time they haven't performed is in wet clay type mud, the mud just stayed stuck to the tyres.. but overall they are fantastic, really soft tread that grips just about everything. From what I've heard their biggest competitor would be the Proline TSLs, which would perform better in wetter, softer conditions, whereas the Iroks would be better in dry, hard conditions

Have you had a chance to put the 20 tooth pinions on yet?
