| Blazer cut-top with CGR cage
Standard Proline Blazer with rear top removed. Scalped a Bronco CGR for the cage and interior (don't tell the Bronco fans). Made new links from 8/32 all-thread to fit the WB, I hate it when Blazers aren't properly fit to their wheelbase. I plan to fashion a way to retain the removable top. The CGR body fits inside pretty good. The main challenge was getting the Blazer to sit low enough on the CGR; the front bars fit very tightly against the Blazer roof just behind the corners of the windshield. - Now off to paint the rest. The body is painted and mounted. I did a two-stage with Tamiya Copper on the inside and Tamiya Orange on the outside. Now time to put some rock rash on it for that special touch. Last edited by SP225; 10-16-2012 at 06:57 PM. Reason: Corrected image links |

I kinda like it without the cage. It has better balance without the spare and extra weight at the back. |

that just means you need more weight up front. my SCX based scout has 9oz of lead weight on the chassis. it forces the suspension to work and in my opinion, makes them drive much more scale.

| Right. My new thing I am experimenting with is getting light as possible but maintaining balance. Without adding weight to the front I tried removing it in the rear. All the while using super softer springs for articulation. It's pretty fun, it can hop from rock to rock if it needs to and still slow crawl in the tight spots.

blazer looking really nice! brings back memories of rolling around in my old k5 diesel with the doors and top removed. i like it better without the cage installed. perhaps if the cage were custom and more shaped with the hardtop profile it might look better than the angled cage.

Anyways, I finally got the hard top finished and mounted with velcro. We'll see how it holds up. | |
