Default Shock mod

Just a little mod I did for some more articulation, swapped out the shafts for one from a rustler. And removed the stock bump stops

How much shaft is still sticking out of the body at full compression?

Looks like maybe a 1/4" more with the bump stop removed, but the shaft cant go any furthur up into the body.

You should have the same amount of suspension travel based on the same size shock body, it's just going to give your truck a lift.

All this is true but you guys are missing one thing. On full compression it is the same but on upward travel it is further

You still have the same upward and downward travel, its all limited in the shock body....

Removing the stock bump stop was all you had to do.

Yup your shock travel is really limited by the shock body if you think about it...the piston where the e clips attach to the shaft is the top point which is where you are limited during up travel. Down travel is still the same as well since the length between the piston and the lower cartridge is still the same. Again the point here is the shock body length determines how far up/down your shaft can travel.

That's why say an 80mm shock has a shorter body than a 100mm shock. However what you did by changing shafts has given you a tad bit higher ride height. Probably why you feel like you're getting more travel. Basically you could have accomplished the same effect by changing the lower rod end to a longer one such as Revo or Jato rod ends...

Also...the only way one side of the axle can drop further is for the other side to compresses more.

Edit: you have me thinking of changing out my shock rods to get rid of the brass color though...thanks!

Maybe that's why I'm thinking I'm getting more articulation cause the one side of the axle is going lower now thus keeping the wheel on the ground ??

Idk maybe I'm nuts

Yes, the shock doesn't have anymore travel than before, the shock body limits the travel as the piston has to travel inside. The shock can extend further than before, but it cannot compress as much as it once did. It's a trade off, if you enjoy it and it works on your truck, keep it. You can use this to limit the up travel to prevent rubbing on the body. Only on RC Cars though, I don't advise on 1:1 lol.
