| Painting body outside
Hi guys, I m wanting to change the colour of my scx10 jeep.but instead of buying a whole new body, i wanna ask if you guys have experience with spraying a lexan body from the outside. Will it flake off after a while or scratch easily? Is there a certain technique i need fir this? |

if you use the right kind of paint for these body's it wont flake. however it will wear off if the body is scratched. as it is scraping the paint first, then the plastic. people have done it plenty however.

As long as you prep correctly you should be ok. Being on the outside, it will peel, chip, flake and scratch though. If you're going after a super scale look do a base coat of silver/aluminum then hit it with the paint. when you scratch the paint the base color will show through like real metal. I used a purple scotch brite pad to scuff the outside befroe I even tried to hit it with paint. |

I used primer as the first coat to cover the body then sprayed it with my second main color, which was orange.

Went into a fair amount of detail describing exterior painting in my recent build thread, you may find some additional idea's there?... one thing I failed to mention in my thread is I scuffed any lexan to be painted thoroughly with red Scotchbrite followed by a good wash and dry before masking NorCal 2500HD, your rig looks SWEET in Olive Drab! |

I've been using a body that I've painted from the outside for a while now. They scratch , and dent like a real four wheeler. The coolest thing about it is that you just retape over the glass and you can just respray it after light scuffing with some sandpaper. The body comes out with a low gloss sheen. You also tape off or replace the stickers.

I guess this has been done before but i'm thinking about painting the inside ''rust'' and the exterior some color. That way when it sratches it'll show some rust |

Just a thought...has anyone tried bedliner? It would be durable. Would it stick? Would it be too heavy? Hmmm...

I have found that if you use a proper lexan RC paint for the first coat, you can pretty much use any other paint on top of that. The lexan RC paint sticks the best to lexan. And any other color paint will stick to the lexan paint. The scratches and dings that happen after that make it look more authentic.
