| looking at starting a build. need help.
Hey guys, just getting back into the hobby and need some advice. I just ordered a scx10 dingo kit. I plan on running a holmes hobbies BR-XL with a trailmaster 27T, low gearing, hitec 7955 TG, rewire with deans wet noodle 12 AWG and ultra connectors, spectrum DX3E, and a haiyin 4s 14.8 volt battery. I plan on running it like this stock until I Get the money to buy upgrades after I buy electronics. What my question to you is what I should upgrade first. Post Away! Thanks guys

I would contact Holmes and check in to see if it's a good idea to run 4s. My guess is that you should stick to 3s.

I think that the 4 cell would be a little bit to much. I run 3cell and my 27t gets plenty of power, running 18/87 gearing and when I news the power its there. Looking foward to see the build.

With a 4S battery, the brushes in the motor won't last very long. If you are building for speed, I would go for brushless setup. I was wondering what you meant by rewire. The BR-XL is wired with silicon wire so you need to do is solder on the Deans connector on the ESC battery wires. On the motor side you make a short motor lead out of the wet noodle wire and solder on the bullet connectors that come with the BR-XL. |

Or try the sidewinder v3 which is waterproof. I think there isnt really the question if what to upgrade first or what second. It all depends on your needs how you want to setup the car. I bought beadlock wheels first before doing anything else. Like that you dont have to glue your tyres to your kit wheels. Once you got tired of either one, you can easily upgrade one of the 2 without having to bake the tyres of or so. After that i got myself some new shocks etc. In the end, it all depends on how mich cash you re willing to invest and what you really need. |

If you do run 4s ... you will likely need to beef up all the gears in the transmission (Robinson Racing?) and front and rear differentials (Axial HD bevel gears, Hot Racing lockers?)... CVD's for the front axle (Vanquish?)... Expect to twist the stock driveshafts into twizzlers and replace them with a set of MIP's... If you find your rig burns through spur gears you may want to swap them over to 32p (spur and pinion)... Sounds exciting though! |

I run 4s on my JK. Its a HH 55t hand wound. Stock transmission, no.slop.lockers, xr steering mod. Runs great. I get some serious run times on 2000mah.

2s Lipo on a stock Honcho has tons of power. I don't really think you need 4s IMO. 3s would probably be fine if you wanted some speed.

I have 3s on mine but, I have a 93T spur, 13T pinion, under-drive gears in both diffs, BR/XL, and HH CrawlMaster Pro 20T. It's a 5-pole so, that's roughly equivalent to a 40T 3-pole. I should probably go back to the stock pinion, or maybe 18T, for a little more top-end. But, I would definitely NOT go to 4s for more speed. It's just not necessary, and will only result in magic smoke being released from somewhere.
