Default SCX10 a better choice than TF2?

I know these two have been compared like crazy in the past so please forgive the repetitiveness of the subject....I've also inquired on the TF2 forum as well.....

I have neither and I'm looking for a scale 1.9 rig.
My impression is that there is more aftermarket support for the SCX10 and the durability is better. But the Trail Finder just has a better scale look.

Looks vs. Performance?

Or, is there something better on the horizon than either of these?

It's all personal preference. SCX (Performance) vs TF2 (Looks)

Yes. TF2 can be made very capable, but takes more work to get to SCX performance, however it's scale looks cannot be beat unless you custom build. What do the people in your area who you might crawl with have? Which do you like better? They are both good, but different.

It seems to be they're like apples & oranges.
The TF2 takes more to reach performance and durability but the SCX takes more to reach scale looks.
The TF2 price tag kills me though....

The only thing I broke on my TF2 is a stock axle shaft. Otherwise it has held up very well.

I've had both, still have the SCX10's, sold the TF2. As nice as the TF2 was, it wasn't as capable as the SCX10's. I wish at times I would have four linked the TF2 to see if that would have made a difference.

I have seen 4 linked TF2 setups that work amazing. They all seem to fall just a tad short performance wise when running against scx10s. In the end it's really all about your budget and what you are looking for as an individual. Box stock an scx10 is going to out drive a TF2, but the TF2 is going to look better doing it.

Cheers,
Dick

TF2 if you're really into the scale looks and realistic scale performance. SCX-10 for durabilty and all-out trailing and rock crawling.

I have both, and the SCX-10 platform just kicks ass on rocks, trails, whatever you throw at it .

The SCX-10 platform is the most popular for good reason: reliability.
I'm beginning to think that I might like the challenge of building a TF2 that is more durable than stock.
Yet, I'm not too keen on the challenge that I will encounter when my wallet says "hellz no!"

I own 4 scx-10s and they have all spent a tremendous amount of time collecting dust since I got my TF2.

To me, the TF2 is a lot more fun to drive. It's very capable too, once you learn how to drive it. I've pulled off lines that a Wraith with good tires couldn't do. Same with my own Honcho that is tuned for pure rock crawling.

It's a great kit and is totally worth the price. There is so aluminum and steel, combine that with a scale hardbody and more realistic front mounted motor/tranny and a center transfer case and the cool factor is thru the roof. Not to mention the very nice 2-speed that comes with it.

There are weak points that are easily addressed if you read up on them. The drive shafts are weak but easily replaced (old style stock scx-10 drive shafts are perfect, it's what I'm running) properly shim the diff gears and properly grease them and they hold up great. if you keep the leaf springs, you WILL bend them if you abuse it. Same thing would happen with leaf springs on an scx or anything else for that matter so it's not a fault of the TF2 specifically. Basically, they are NOT fragile no matter what anyone says. Sure people break them, but they HAVE to be abusing the crap out of them. In that case, you should expect to break stuff, so accept it.

They are both great trucks but are so different I can't see how they can be compared. I like and enjoy them both for different reasons. You need to decide what is more important to you.
