ZiG's first trail rig

Been in RC for quite a few years but never did the crawler thing til recently. Mostly been racing onroad and offroad, sportflying and messing around with boats.

So I decided to give the trail thing a try, and picked up a dingo!

My goal was to get something half decent for as cheap as I could, until I know I like it. I had a few spare brushed ESCs laying around and some other parts, and when cobbled together I ended up with this.

-Home made LED kit
-Bluebird BMS-660DMG steering servo
-Tamiya TEU-101BK ESC
-Novak 35T motor
-Losi 4" aluminum shocks
-Castle BEC
-Gmade beadlock wheels
-Servo winch made from a burnt out 645MG and a second Tamiya ESC
-4link rear suspension made from spare parts that came in the kit
-Futaba 4PK

I spent like $10 at digikey and came up with this 3.3v regulator for the LEDs. It should have something like 3-4 amps continuous output, and I'm running a lot of power through the LEDs, which were specifically ordered for this.


The servo winch started with a brushed aircraft ESC but when you try and pull the line out, the ESC tries to stop the motor and it's really hard to pull. So I grabbed another ESC I had laying around and soldered the wires directly to the motor in the servo. It's PLENTY strong, can pull the truck vertically no problem!


You can sort of see the box I put the electronics in.. It's an electronics project box and should be fairly water resistant. I also took both ESCs apart and covered them with silicone caulking, so they should be pretty darn waterproof as well. Or splash proof anyway, I don't plan to submerge it.. Excuse the mess of wiring, I was kind of building it as I went, and now that I'm happy with all the components/locations I'll have to clean it up a bit..



LEDS are friggin' bright


I guess it doesn't look super duper scale, but I'm happy with it, for a first attempt

Looks good. Do I understand this right you are running two ESC's? If so why? I am some what new to the scale world too.

Yeah, two ESCs. One for the motor like usual, the other one is soldered directly to the motor in the servo on the back, to drive the winch. It was the easiest way I could come up with to get the job done.
