Hey Everyone,

This box finally got to my doorstep yesterday...and inside, the Axial SCX10 Jeep Wrangler G6 Edition - Christmas came early !!!





I'm going to be following along with Joe Ferguson from ScaleFreak.com - this kit is fairly simple to build, but Joe has a lot of great tips that will make the kit go together easier, and stay together longer. Here are all the parts i've been hoarding over the last few weeks - it was a bit overwhelming once I got them all on the same bench ! where to start :s !!!



The parts list as of now looks like this...

Vanquish Currie Axles - Front and Rear
Vanquish Stage 1 Kit
Vanquish 10 pc titanium links for Currie Axles
RCScrewz SCX10 stainless steel hardware kit
Team Fast Eddies Bearings for SCX10
Axial Overdrive gears for front axle
Robinson racing hardened steel idler and outdrive gear
Axial Universal set
Pitbull Rock beast 1.9s
Crawler Innovations Foams
RC4WD Pro10 Bead lock rims (if they work with the pit bulls)
RC4WD 9300xt Bulldog winch
RC4WD Steel rock sliders
MIP Drive shafts
GCM Racing front Motor/Transmission Mount
GCM Racing Chassis mount for servo
GCM Racing Transfer case (will be using one of the WB8 drive shafts with this, as it requires 3)
Savox SW-0231MG waterproof servo

and I'm still undecided on which motor/ESC I am going to use - I have a Tekin 45T and FXr combo and I also have a Holmes hobbies waterproof BRXL and 35T combo which I have been really digging lately - any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Your shopping list is quite impressive. Looking forward to seeing the build. Unfortunaly, my pockets can't go that deep at once. I am still waiting for mine to arrive. I will be pretty much running pretty much stock except wheels and tires till stuff breaks or as budget allows. Probably won't have it up and running till next year.

yeah I normally preach that the best way to do it is upgrade as you break parts, but thought I would try something different this time. It's a great kit, even in stock form !

well, since I am following along with the scalefreak build, I started with the shocks - as I mentioned before, Joe had some great tips for building the shocks, which made a lot of sense and made the build easier.









just have to throw in the eyes and adjust the shock links and that'll be the shocks - I might take that rubber spacer off as well.

on to bag D - the transmission build will be slightly different than normal, since I will be using the GCM motor/transmission mount instead of the stock mount.



once again, using the robinson racing hardened steel idler gear and outdrive gear - these things are built tough for a bullet proof transmission.

also, replaced the stock bearing with the fast eddies for super smooth action.

oops, went to far and put the spur gear on - here is where the build differs slightly - the GCM motor/tranny mount...



that's better...





while I was at it, thought i'd slap together the GCM transfer case as well...





one small thing to note with the transfer case, in the instruction video, they tell you to make sure the screw heads are on the input shaft side - it is also important to note that only one side of the transfer casing is threaded, so ensure that half is on the opposite side of the input shaft.

next up will be the chassis !

I have RC4WD Pro 10's with 1.9 Rock Beasts on my Honcho and I will say, they don't go together easy. I ended up having to use small drops of CA glue so the bead would hold. Great looking combo when it's together though. Joe actually has a video on his channel putting the exact wheel and tire together.

Yeah I had to do the same with the CA glue with another set of RC4WD rims and the rock beasts - not ideal but it works that's for sure.

mounted the transfer case on the chassis bracket - I still need to drill 2 more holes on the opposite side of the transfer case, it is quite secure with only 2 screws but it's going to need 4 for all the torque going through this thing.



now to start on the chassis itself...





slapped together with some stainless hardware from rcscrewz and presto...



now to mount the motor and transmission up front - I will have to use the front hole on the shock mount in order to screw into the motor/tranny mount. Also had to cut off the small tab on the bracket below the motor mount in order to get both of the lower shock mount screws in place.

Got the battery mount on the rear for the time being as there isn't much room anywhere else with the forward motor mount and transfer case in the middle - you will see in the instruction manual that there are two options for mounting the battery, either forward or aft, and if you've been following Joe's build (scalefreak.com) you will see that he mounted his forward, which is definitely the way to go if you have a stock kit, all the weight over the front tires !!!

I also mounted the RC4WD steel sliders on the chassis - these things are great, you can feel the extra weight they add nice and low, and make the entire kit seem way more durable.

Next I assembled the Vanquish titanium links...gotta be careful threading into the plastic rod ends, as you can even feel the heat building up as you assemble these.



laid them all out to help speed up the process a little bit - organization is key with all these parts laying around ! and at times, I have found the bench to be a bit messy - there's nothing more frustrating than looking for a screw that you JUST had and not being able to find it through the mess.



and finally all assembled...



next up will be the axles !!!

On to the Vanquish Currie Rock Jock Axles...I didn't take as many photos and I won't detail every step in this process, as they go together pretty much like the stock axles, and Vanquish has an excellent video that explains each step in the build process.

next step for me is the body - a part which I dread, mainly because I lack the patience for masking off, and the finesse of cutting out the pieces - so i'll be doing as much masking as my temper can take - i'll try for 3 colours.

well after much frustration with the masking, the body is painted - if you've been following any of the other G6 build threads on Rccrawler, this paint job might look familiar, but for one it's the only decent paint I could find at the LHS and two, I think it looks bad ass so who cares eh ! managed to get three colours masked off, Metallic Blue, Gold, Silver.
threw a couple of the decals on but wanted to keep it simple.











and on to the chassis it goes....

I mounted the pit bull rock beasts on some other RC4WD aluminum wheels I had laying around for the time being - I have been trying to find some longer 2.5mm screws for the RC4WD pro 10s, in order to get the bead started - it is nearly impossible to push both sides of the rim together and get those small nuts threaded on the screws - even with two people, there just isn't enough finger room. The crawler innovations closed cell foams do help a lot though, it makes it much more manageable than trying to get the pit bull 2 stage foams squeezed in there !

made a few changes to the rig - threw in a roc412 2300kv motor and rs gen 2 esc to try out the brushless side of crawling. need to get my hands on a PC (only have macs) to use the hotwire to reverse the ESC due to the front motor mount positioning of the motor/transmission.
Also wired in a warn winch, lots of weight in the front now.





then I wired it up with two 3s 1200 mah lipos in parallel - mounted them on the sliders to keep the weight nice and low - this is definitely my favourite spots to mount the batteries, I love the way this truck feels now, balanced perfectly.





threw a chainsaw, toolbox, wd40 and some cans of colt 45 (haha) in it for some scale looks.
