| 6sharky9's Rubicon Sleeper build
Planning to get going with the RTR Rubicon Unlimited build using as little as possible aftermarket wise to make it a performer...This will be a super low budget performance "sleeper". What is the definition of a sleeper? Well in the automotive world you could describe a sleeper as being a vehicle with no indications to its performance ability. An example would be how in the 80s ford built the Taurus SHO V6...Just a plain jane 4 door no frills family car. What made it a sleeper is the fact it could eat up v8 Camaros and even 5.0 mustangs for lunch and crap them out with out batting an eye. The Camaro and mustang both being known in the performance world with v8 power Its basicly what you cant see that makes a vehicle a sleeper. I recall being at the drag strip one night and seeing this ugly rusted out green 80s Volvo with stock rusted steel wheels on it lining up against a mustang 5.0 with drag wheels and the hood scoop and yada yada...The mustang did beat the Volvo but what I wasn't expecting was to see the 13.15 ET at over 105mph the Volvo clicked off...That was an amazing sleeper car..I honestly figured something like 17s maybe a high 16 in the 1/4. That was a prime example of a sleeper. This will be a fun one. As it sits now I moved the battery to the front like the RTR Honcho Ive made some home made lower links and steering links. The rest is 100 percent RTR stock as of now.(minus deans battery plugs) Last edited by 6sharky9; 01-01-2014 at 07:29 PM. |

Edit: Actually you may need a few spacers as well like what comes on the honcho. Look up the honcho manual and you will see the spacers you need or you can make some fairly easy from tubing. Last edited by 6sharky9; 01-01-2014 at 07:27 PM. | |

That Taurus platform was a pos and it's engine performance was no miracle. Just because it was faster then a some other mom n pops pos's don't make it worth dreaming about sleeper to me is... ...stock looking vehicle ...with a ballzy bb bastard motor. ^ preferably something from the '60s ? sooo... does this mean yer gonna finally use a 3s ? |

So, its not going to be a sleeper, its just stock? How does a rock crawler become a sleeper? No 3s = no sleeper.

I have a JK kit in the mail and will be moving my battery forward also, like all my rigs. As far as the Taurus goes, they were quick for a family car no doubt. But, a guy in high school had a second gen SHO with the Yamaha motor, and I never once saw it win against a 5.0 mustang (nor any other SHO's for that matter). It was heavier, made less HP (negligible, only 5HP difference) but a lot less TQ and horrible manners coming off the line being FWD. High HP FWD cars are notorious to terrible TQ steer and weight transfer issues that do just the opposite of what is needed coming out of the hole. But, like most forms of racing, it's 80% driver / rider, 20% vehicle. |

| Re: 6sharky9's Rubicon Sleeper build Oh, excuse me for my ignorance. I just realized that you moved the shocks inward, removed the tire carrier, raised the body, and some how manage to install 1 tire backwards. Thing aught to be a beast!! Probably going to show those MOA rigs whats up with that sleeper there. I'd go the extra mile though and run 1 cell, just to really get in their head.

I think we all know what a sleeper is... What you have is.... a rtr with the battery moved forward and plastic upper links... What we have is you giving is something to laugh at! And we thank you for the constant laughs! Enjoy yourself and your "sleeper" show up to a comp and show us what you got! |
