Default Sticking Slipper Clutch

Hey guys - forgive me if there is something already on this topic. I did at least TRY to find something.

To be honest, since getting my SCX10, I had not put a huge number of miles on it, so the maintenance has been limited to fairly superficial stuff. However, I finally started digging in a bit deeper cause it really seemed like the slipper clutch was too tight. Fiddling with the adjustment nut made no difference. So I took the slipper clutch assembly out. In this explanation I'm calling the side with the friction material the "Friction disk", and the side with the metal the "flywheel" for lack of a better term. I tried to break apart the friction disk and the flywheel and they were fused solid (this is with the tensioning spring completely removed, of course). I mean, a Mamba Monster on 6S would not have budged that thing. I GENTLY pried the halves apart with a screw driver (no surfaces gouged or scratched), and the parts looked PERFECT - I mean MINT. Not even a TRACE of corrosion, etc. So, I reassembled it, set the tension, and it worked fine for one run (slipping, but not too tight, not too loose). Truck sat for a week, and before I ran it again, I figured I had better check teh clutch again. Once again, it had seized on! Once again, no corrosion or other explanation. Once again, rebuilt it and tensioned it. Once again worked fine on the day's run. A week later - same thing (and yes, I only get out once a week )

Anyone else had this happen? I mean, it's not a MASSIVE job, but it is a pain to have to reset the slipper every darn weekend.

I run my slipper clutch locked as tight as the nut goes been that way for 2.5 years, but if it was stock i would have way more broken parts. so i would just set it on the tighter side of adjustment.

THat's how I run mine on my SCX and Wraith, but with upgraded drivetrain parts.

No slipper on my AX10 and never a problem. Buy the tranny topshaft and plastic spurgear adapter for the AX10 or the same top shaft and aluminum gear adapter from HR Hot Racing or similar: Hot Racing Axial SCX-10 Scale Truck RC Car upgrades and Hop-ups

Your other options are replacing the slipper pad or getting a RRP Gen3 slipper clutch. Robinson Racing Products - Products and Pricing for Axial Wraith

next time you have your slipper apart, put a few drops of CA on both sides of the pads and assemble it, trust me you'll never have a problem with that slipper again. Seriously thats how ive run mine for years without an isssue.

The slipper should only slip during a bind situation.
Meaning: yer wedged into the rocks or attempting an under hang.

If the slipper spins too much it will heat up due to friction
this friction heat could cause the material to melt sorta
and then bond itself to the metal.

Try flipping the slipper disk pad 180*
and then tighten it more so that it don't slip as easily.

Be sure there are no surface mars on the metal discs
nor any residue.
Lightly sand the metal discs to clean their surfaces.

If that fails... I'd replace the pad
excessive friction heat may have permanently damaged
the pad's lubricity.

I personally feel the slipper should be set to slip slightly
if still running the stock plastic tranny gears.

Or... if tightened fully...
back off on the throttle when tire bind occurs.

* the slipper should not slip during hard (rapid) acceleration
