I would use 14/87 for crawling and check your temps after awhile.

Try 16/87, then check the temps but that should get you by. I run 15/87 on my crest and it runs 2s but the temps are cool. Good luck.

I too like to run the 14/87 combo. Motor got pretty warm for my liking with a 16 tooth pinion. I like to bump up the motor rpm when crawling (14t pinion) to make for a smoother crawl so to speak. If I'm right at the bottom of the throttle range/rpm, it just doesn't seem as tractable to me.

My standard combo with 35t motor and 3cell is 87/20 Plenty of low end and good wheel speed. And I never have had any heat issues either.

I tend to go on long trail rides like 7 hours or more lol so I don't want to burn up motors lef and right and I'm heavy on the trigger at times lol

If you are going on a long hike like that then less pinion is "more".. meaning, it'll be cooler temps and you wont get 4 miles in and smoke a motor. Go with a 14 to 16 pinion. They are small and easy to change on the trail. May pay to bring a small selection. |

I'd start with 87/16. I pretty much run 3s exclusively and don't think I've ever run less than a 16t. a 14t wouldn't hurt but will lose more wheel speed. I go on long hikes too and my motors rarely get about 90 degrees or so.
