Default Steering Improvements

Hey guys, as we all probably know, the scx10 doesn't get the best steering radius (or maybe I'm just fussy ). I'm trying to make this short, so if i were going to get the axial hi-clearance knuckles what else would i need to actually get more steering?

Cheers, Hammer!

You will need a radio that you can adjust the travel of the steering with and I needed a longer steering link and I switched the drag bar side from drivers to passenger and the spacing and configuring will have to change just play with the steering until you get it right no servo twist when fully locked out or as little as you can

Run OD gears in the front diff...you'll get more steering that way besides the high clearance knuckles. It will also climb better too.

What was already said and a Blue Monkey Ti Steering linkage for SCX, make sure you select the Axial High Steer option Titanium Steering Linkage for SCX10, Blue Monkey RC

I un-bent the two end bends slightly to give me a little toe out which also gives more steering. Combine this with OD or UD rear gears, I went front OD and it works great! Or you could do both od and ud gears for even more, but I've found just doing one gearset is enough for me and creates less drivetrain binding and wear.

Its also a good idea to use cvds instead of dogbones since they allow for more travel. Going to a xr / universal setup will give you more steering angle but also a little more width

Would it depend on the servo and dual rates? I can understand using universals to get the best radius though.

ok so the blue monkey steering is what simpscx10 what talking about (needing longer steering links). so for the bit about OD and UD gears, I'm going to be honest i have no idea what they are, so let me get this straight, OD gears for the front and UD for the rear, and they will both give me better steering? thank you

It basically makes the front tires turn faster which will drag the rear tires. Better turning radius will ensue. I personally run OD's up front and UD's in the rear. Makes a big difference in the turning radius and climbs a lot better!

Just search "bevel gears" on amain and they'll come right up.

Underdrive = 43/13 #AXI30402
Stock = 38/13 #AXI30395
Overdrive = 36/14 #AXI30401

CVD's make a huge difference, get rid of those crappy dog bones!

ok so, the "bevel gears" are what johnnysplits were talking about with OD gears? also do i want overdrive or underdrive? and do i need them in the front and back? or can someone just help me understand them lol. now apart from this overdrive, under drive stuff.

and what cvd's do i need?

I've got a list of stuff that I've gathered from this thread; axial hi-clearance knuckles, blue monkey titanium steering links, cvd's (don't know which though), and bevel gears (need the figure that out )

People have there own preferences on only running OD in the front and or OD in the front and UD in the back at the same time. If your looking to rock crawl go with both, if you want some speed and bashing go for OD in the front only.

my main purpose of getting od or ud gears is for steering, so OD gears JUST in the front and stock in the back will give me better steering, speed and crawling if I'm correct. now i just need to know, what CVD's do i need?

ok i decided on the vanquish vvd's (same thing i think) so here is my list of steering upgrades.

Axial Hi-Clearance Knuckles (Axial Racing - Axial Hi-clearance Knuckles (2pcs))
Bluemonkey Titanium Steering Linkage (Titanium Steering Linkage for SCX10, Blue Monkey RC)
Axial Bevel Gears - Overdrive;36T/14T (Axial Racing - Heavy Duty Bevel Gear Set - 36T/14T)
Vanquish VVD's (VANQUISH VVD Axial SCX V2 VPS07031 ax30420 ax30366 ax30464)

that should be all i need to get some good steering shouldn't it?

ok i changed my mind on the CVD's, I'm going for RC4WD ones -> RC4WD Extreme Duty XVD Axles for Axial / AX10 / Honcho / Dingo / Rubicon Axles (Scorpion, SCX10)
