Default Got my kit today, started building!

Hey guys! So I decided on the SCX10 Jeep Wrangler kit. I got it earlier today and started building it.

While I'm building it, are there are tricks or tips you recommend? I see alot of people run the battery in a different location. Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks!

I've seen people running battery up front, rotating motor plate and some other mods.

If you can help me with the above, please let me know!

I run the Levne Racing battery tray, works well with the Vanquish CMS kit, but be prepared to do some drilling and grinding and bending to make it fit.
Once you get it bolted on it makes your front end rock solid, and it has a knock out for a servo winch

I've also seen people doing the mirror mod to the tranny, but I don't understand how to do it.

You would just turn the whole skidplate around backwards, it fits either ways. Then reverse the way the engine turns, so it will go forward again. I can't explain why someone would do it though

So you don't recommend doing it? I've heard it helps with the torque twist.

I do it on my truck, honestly the way I drive I don't notice much of a difference.
BUT, what you have to do is, reverse the skid plate and reverse the transmission output. just flip it around out the other side.
This puts the motor over the front tires more, keeping the weight forward.
It just changes the COG.
Thats all really.

whats it mean to mirror the trans?

So I have to build my transmission a different way, or just attach the motor plate and motor to it differently?

The entire skidplate that the transmission bolts to can be rotated 180 degrees. I always mount mine with the motor up front. Build it exactly as the manual says, just install it 180 degrees from what's shown.

Putting the battery pack up front is the best mod you can make out of the box. You have all the required parts in the box, take a look at the G6 kit's instructions and you'll see exactly how's it's done

EDIT: intruction links are not valid for whatever reason, can check it out in the gallery.

So that would put the motor on the right and the spur to the front? That's all I need to do?

There is a difference between turning the transmission around and mirroring. Mirroring envolves building the transmission with the input shaft coming out of the transmission on the opposite side of what the directions tell you. You will lose the ability to run the gear cover.

Here is a thread with a video about it:

Mirroring the trans does not simply mean turn the trans the other direction. If you want to mirror the trans you must build the trans differently. If you do this you will not be able to use the spur gear cover. I'll do what i can to find a good Tech thread later today for ya

Edit: Looks like i was 7 mins to slow lol!

Thanks guys!

So I just need to open my trans case and make the shaft come out the other side?

Just got back from my LHS with a Castle Creations Sidewinder ESC and a Hitec 5646 waterproof servo! Also ordered a Holmes 27t motor this morning.

Yep, there's a plastic plug that pops out of the back. Your topshaft will stick out there, and the plug will go back in the other side. But like them other dudes said, you can't run a cover. A motor mount will flip over backwards, though, but not a spur gear cover.

Ah, I run the older versions w/o covers - mirror them all the time for custom builds. Wasn't getting the lingo - Thanks for clarifying!

Install the driveshafts with the splined half attached to the transmission. This will save the splines. You can also beef up the stock shafts by inserting a plastic rod inside of the splined shaft. Preferably, you'll want steel driveshafts.

Unlike that other battery tray that you have to hack to install, I really like this one...and it bolts right in!! Front Tray Axial RC Crawler Scale Honcho Dingo Rubicon JK SCX10 1 10 Truck | eBay

The splines are the ones with the teeth showing or the hollow shaft? What do you mean insert a plastic rod into the shaft?

The stoxk battery tray bolts right onto the front, it doesn't have to be hacked up.

This is what the Levne Racing tray looks like, it puts the battery low. I had to bend mine a bit right above where the battery sits to make it fit right, and its bolted in, NOT screwed The plate on the left side holds the esc and bec, everything is bolted down and/or zip-tied, I hate that sticky tape. The right side is the Vanquish side rail mount which holds a Traxxas radio box. Hope it helps...
