Opening up the box and driving it is always nice, I have done it many times. But I always upgrade the electronics and links and most parts soon after I get it. My last few few have been kits and I enjoy building them and choosing my electronics. So I guess in the long run for me a kit is cheaper.

The first thing I did with my RTR was to swap out the radio and use my old tx and rx from my former quadcopter. I drive with a stick radio but given the slow speed of crawling and having the extra switches and channels has worked out good for using the winch and being able to turn off and on the head lights and fog light independently. So now I have the stock radio and receiver to go into a kit when I get one.
