| OD/UD Grub Screw Hate Them
I searched and searched i swear but could not find an answer. I installed OD/UD Axial gears in my Curries. I'm running the stock wild boars (For now) with stupid grub screws on both sides of the pinion because the pinions don't have the hole for the thru pin. I keep losing grip on the screws and have to replace them every so often. Has anyone drilled theirs out or have a different option to keep the shaft on the pinion? If so, what type of bit because that pinion is stupid hard. If someone has done it, i will do it on my next tear down. Thanks for any info. Why in the world would they not make a hole? |

You can drill them but they tend to be weaker. Honestly some good blue lock tight always does the trick. Haven't had one back out in years. current versions previous versions Fixed my post, thanks for the correction JesterSpec Last edited by klabeaume; 09-16-2014 at 07:16 PM. |

The new style has the thru hole, not the old style. Sounds like you got some old stock HD gears. All of the new kits come with thru holes, and all the new drive shafts come with thru pin style screws. |

Get rid of the m3 set screws and use a normal m3 cap/button head, allows more torque to be applied and less chance of stripping. I have a mixture of both on mine and my kid's rig with no issues. Of course going with mip's will be alot easier being that the set screws are m4 and are generally more robust (except for the wraith version with the crappy m3 threaded hubs). |

Agreed on the drying of the loctite after applying, also cleaning the surfaces. On the trail I use a lighter to heat up the area real quick after the loctite has been applied. If anything to crustalize/crystallize the outer portion in hopes of creating some kinda barrier for the screw/set screw.. works most of the time for me.

Thanks for all the replies guys. After 2 mild runs using your button head and blue loctite trick, the front is still together. Experience and knowledge are much appreciated.
