Chris generis used a Bondic pen to fill holes in lexan if you still need to. I got one but haven't played with it yet.

Cool thanks. I saw one yesterday and was wondering what it was good for.

Put some new wheels and tires on the bug. 2.2 Vanquish SLWs and 1.9 Pro-Line K02 tires stretched over them. Can't see it here but I also patched the holes in the hood using a Bondic pen. We'll see how it holds out.

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Finally got around to doing some more work on the bug. Tried my hand at a bit of styrene work and built a cage around the engine. Been meaning to do this for quite a while now. All it needs is a bit of flat black paint.

And here it is with a shot of Krylon flat black paint.

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Got rid of the Vanquish SLW wheels and put the Axial plastic rims back on. I like the look of black on brown. The SLWs had a bit too much bling for this thing. I'm also liking how the paint is chipping off here and there and showing the darker colour underneath.

Gives it character "thumbsup"

Engine guard turned out good, but gotta lose the body mounts through the rear window. Any chance of using magnets or Velcro?

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Yeah I'm trying to figure out a good way to get rid of those body mounts. Velcro would work if I hadn't trimmed the frame rails. Maybe I otta get me another set.

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

OK, bought some new rails today as well as some 1, 2 and 3 mm Sintra to play around with to make an interior of some kind. Should be able to use magnets to hold on the body on in the rear instead of those ugly body posts. Not sure what I'll do about the holes. Probably just let them be.

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Well, it turns out that I didn't need new rails, just needed to think a bit. Added some velcro to the back end of the frame brace and the inside of the body. Holds like a charm. I'll take the rails back to the LHS and save that money for an SCX10 II kit.

Thanks for the idea Mike Flea!

Yeah, it's getting there. Working on the dash board right now. I'm going to try to cut 1mm Sintra on my wife's Silhouette Cameo cutter. Gotta make a cut file first.

Are you using it in C1 or C2?

Tossedman 08-26-2016 09:12 PM

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Nothing yet. But most likely C2. Gotta add more stuff to if though.

Re: Dingo to Bug - First SCX10 build

Spent the day messing around with a dashboard. Spent a lot of time on something that won't really be seen but what the heck eh. Here's the dash I'm looking to emulate.

Used the Silhouette Cameo to score some 1mm Sintra to the shape of the dash.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4324-62681.jpg

It's too thick to cut with this machine but it gave me a line to finish with a sharp knife. Then I painted it flat black.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4324-62678.jpg

Then I used to cutter to cut some white vinyl with the dash details. Since most VW dash boards back in the day were the same colour as the car I painted the vinyl with some flat brown. The vinyl is self stick. Cool stuff!
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4324-62679.jpg

Them I printed out a picture of a speedometer sized to fit the dash. A bit of glue and Bob's your uncle! Using an axial steering wheel as well. Just started painting it white.

Now to figure out how to mount it in the lexan bug body. Think I need some more shoe goo. Mine seems to have turned into a hard blob. Gotta make some knobs as well.
