| Easier way to remove rear body pins on Honcho?
Hi everyone, I bought an SCX10 Trail Honcho RTR last weekend. I replaced the shocks with some proline scalers last night because 2 of the stock shocks have already leaked all their oil out. The new shocks seem pretty nice and as long as they don't start leaking I'll be happy. I've only done about 2.5 hours of driving it in my backyard just messing around but something else is already bothering me. How do you remove and install your rear body cotter pins? I keep taking the spare tire out and putting it back in every time I take the body off, this seems like a hassel and there must be an easier way other than discarding the spare tire all together. |

You can hinge the back with a few wire holders so it lifts the front but the back is always attached. Look in the tips and tricks section!

Drilling the body pin holes sideways also works.

Just squeeze the tire out of the way and pop the pins out. | |

I would hold the pin like a joint in one hand, then put my index and thumb around the cage with the other hand, and pass the pin over. At this point install it from the cab side.

Saw on a old build thread, guy reversed the middle cage section. Gives some room to get the pins out.

Thanks for all the replys guys, i think the rear hinge looks like the best solution. I do wonder why they didn't put the pins in from the sides when they designed the truck.

takes less than a minute to drill 2 holes sideways through the body pins...

pure laziness man squeez the tire like others have said heck my five year old can do it so can you, or drill the posts with some sidehills. hinging it is going to be twice the work?

You're probably right. I'm thinking of this thing as more of a toy to relax and play with on the weekends than a hobby. I don't have any other plans for upgrades or changes, I just want to keep it stock and have fun driving around my backyard or local park. I enjoy reading all the builds on here and seeing what some of you guys come up with but I don't think I am willing to put in the time/money to really do more than just drive it. I wanted a crawler for the "relaxation" and hopefully not replacing parts all the time like you do on the "go fast" cars/trucks. |

custom velcro body mounts can be made easily. tho' I only utilize a forward velcro mount on my Honcho body. At the rear... I use Proline (PL6050-01) Pro Pull rubber tabs attached to my BM pins. makes it much simpler when pulling the pins even if you have Sasquatch sized fumble fingers. rear install... just push (deform) the spare tire slightly and they go in easy IMO. I never needed to cross drill the posts. I did invert the roll cage X once to see if it was easier... but put it back in it's original position later, for my wants/needs. The tilt up body mount method will not work for me... as I utilize a custom rear bumper that will not allow for that. think a pull tab is visible in this pictar... My son installed a Mojave body on his scx-10 chassis... and he made homebrew velcro body mounts front/rear. 3M backed velcro is the best. So use the Velcro brand... instead of some cheap chinese knock off brand. Holds up well... easy body removal... and even a tumble down a rock has not separated his body/chassis. He don't even pin the front posts... just presses them into the mounts and they seem to hold just fine. |
