After some attempts at custom work (here & here) I have decided to go back to the drawing board and build up something much simpler (that doesn't require tons of styrene work). I have been without a scale crawler since I began on the first Landcruiser 70 (almost three years ago!). Well, some time last year I bought some stock frame rails with the intention of moving all my good SCX10 bits over to a new truck. After many delays, this project has finally gotten back on track. This time, I'll be using a Pro-line Cherokee body, though, so it should be on the trails sooner. The interior will be a custom styrene number. I just discovered that my LHS is now selling Axial gear and hopup parts (finally!), so I brought home a few to freshen up some of the plastic parts that had worn out during this rig's former life. Parts installed. There is an aluminum differential housing that contains some beefy Robinson Racing gears; MIP driveshafts; Hand Bros. CMS (remember those?); Axial Cs, knuckles & rear lockouts, overdrive gears (front), underdrive gears (rear); original Beef toobs; Traxxas Big Bore Shocks; Dlux big bore adapter thingies; and a custom front battery plate. And for the first time in years, it's back on the trail, so to speak. Body will come shortly, once I figure out how to assemble my new-fangled air brush set up I got for Christmas (did I mention I had been busy?). Oh, and the steering angle really sucks, so I'll be trying to eek a little more angle out of that. |

I'm working on designs for the paint. Inspiration is coming from Corita Kent's art, so I'm thinking of painting the body by hand, with vinyl-cut graphics (I knew the wife's Silhouette machine would come in handy). Here are a couple of liveries I've come up with. It'll be sort of an expedition/overland type of build. What do y'all think? Last edited by pixelnate; 04-03-2015 at 02:48 PM. |
