Default RIBAJA's Honcho

Now that I've built a nice DMG stiffy wraith I thought it was time for something new. Off to the LHS with a slash 4x4 and a very old traxxas nitro hawk and came home with this honcho. I'm not sure were this will go but it should be fun.

First question for you guys is would I be better off with the stock ae2 and the 27 turn or change it out to the ae5 and the 20 turn from the spawn. The other thing I was wondering is if I can just replace the stock spur with the one from the deadbolt

Thanks Jeff

Stock AE2, hands down, add a BEC and run it on 3s. 20t vs 27t is more of a personal thing, for me slower is better and I dig 55t on 3s power. If you want to use the deadbolt 32p spur you also need to use the deadbolt trans top shaft and slipper setup.

Why the AE-2 hands down??
And the AE-2 isn't rated for 3S is it?

AE-2 is made by Castle and compatible with Castle-link and as a result is far more tuneable than the cheap Hobbywing made AE-5 (still a decent ESC, but near as good IMO). Just having more than two drag brake settings make it worth while. The only advantage the AE-5 has is that it is waterproof and that's such an easy fix for any ESC it shouldn't be much of a deciding factor. If OP was already running an AE-5 I would advise just keeping it until dead, but he already has the better AE-2 unit, why downgrade?

The AE-2 is only labeled for 2s but even a cursory search will show you that it is more than capable running 3s. I have three of them, all on 3s, the oldest of which has been running that way for the last 3 years.

I didn't care for the stock wheels and form so out with the old and in with the new. So I ordered up a set of Gear head hammer five spokes with CI lil' nova and Pit Bull rock beasts

I didn't like the battery sitting so high on the front so ordered the Howler battery plate. It was a very simple install and nice looking piece just need a water proof box for the receiver.

New Gear head wheels and rock beast installed the truck looks nice better with the bigger tires

Been having some fun with the honcho but it needed some upgrades. I added TCS four links and steering links and had Troy at scalerFab made me this awesome front bumper.

I run the same scalerfab skids and bumper on my honcho also. I love their stuff! they are really tough bumpers. they've gone almost a year of bashing with no signs or wear besides paint. heres a pic of them on my old ram body.

if you do decide to change esc`s dont bother with the ae-5 go with the hobbywing 1060 its the upgraded version of the ae-5 axial went with the cheaper version for some reason forogot to say its also cheaper than the ae-5 but its better than the ae-5

I bought a 1060 from rcmart in China for $20 plus around $3 shipping lol. It arrived in 10 days, and I have been running and beating the snot out of it on 3s and the dam thing won't quit. I am going to try and run it in a slash mt to see if I can destroy it.

Cheers,
Wade
