That's something that uneducated facebook people are doing. It's the most useless setup I've ever seen. You should mock everyone you see do it.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the setup you're asking about. So the shock itself swings? Or the shock eye is attached to a lever with a pivot, therefore giving the shock the ability of reciprocal motion?

I think he's referring to what's known as Revolver Shackles for full size off-roader's with leaf springs (or something of similar design/function).

Wouldn't it have the same effect as running longer shocks with shorter springs?

Worse than that because at least a longer shock damps the stroke.

I asked because Ive been seeing many pictures of people doing this as of late. I would never do it as I think its stupid. I come from the world or 1:1 crawling and am basing my Axials off of what I know from them.

I don't know what that lever is called...

but there was a write up somewhere on here
where someone did that.

It's basically a droop set up... similar to a leaf sprung 6 shooter hanger.

I had the picture and link in a google search
but forgot to link it and now can't find it again

Was simply a 90* arm...
mounted sorta like a cantilever.

But this write up entailed a stop...
so the lever could only swing up to level.
While allowing more droop when at extension.

Not worth the time/effort IMO...

These SCX-10 chassis's already articulate more then most 1:1's could.

You both should keep an open mind. So what if you disagree with the execution, it's not your place to be condescending to anyone. This is what makes our hobby so great, it's the willingness to experiment with new ideas. There are a lot of fails before the first success. I believe necessity is the mother of invention, and the survival of the hobby, especially scale crawlers, lies with the hobbyists willing to build and fab things before buying. Remember it's about respect for the individual.

However it's been tested, and proven to be stupid. It's basic mechanical know how and this idea is a complete failure.

Eepee,
It's good to know that it won't work. As for myself, I am more a traditionalist and would rather run the shocks as designed. You'll never know until it's tried, fail or not.

The "never know until you try" mentality is also BS. A basic knowledge of physics will help you eliminate 95% of the stupid ideas you see. This is one of them.

Thanks guys. This one had me laughing. I agree with the whole, "well, you never know until you try" phrase being BS. You can't just go trying everything out there because you never know. Research! Research goes along way to saving you money, time, and broken parts because you just had to try the newest fad that's all the rage on the forums. Don't get me wrong. I believe money unspent on new parts is wasted money but you need to learn who you can trust for info. I just do whatever Harley says. He's 100% so far.

Extreme flex is like running face first into a wall. You know it's not a good idea but you'll never know how much it hurts until you try it yourself.

worked great, my only complaint was over extension until i added stops. would I do something like on a 1:1? god no. however i think someone in the Chrysler Corp did, jeep or dodge not sure. I think they called it the Articu-link. someone told me about it, i couldnt grasp the concept tho. It was fun while it lasted. love all the haters, gotta feel like a badass somewhere i guess, why not the internet...

Several people used that setup on 1:1s in the 90s just to get the biggest RTI scores when that phase was in.
Never worked well on the trail!!!
