| Scx10 armor question...
Howdy!! I just built an scx10, and spent more time than I care to mention painting and cutting the body.... So test driving it, I find that I need sliders quite quickly... I'm using the Pro-line '09 wrangler body, so it hangs down past the frame a little bit lower than your average SCX10 body... I did my research and found that RC4WD makes a "tough armor" slider set that would just about fit perfectly, except my body hangs down past the frame where the sliders would bolt making there be "fitting" issues. These sliders would cost me right around $40, so do I buy these sliders and figure out how to make them work?? Then comes the idea of building my own! That way I don't have to deal with spending the money and find out it'd be more work than it's worth, and I could make them just right!! So, what material should I use and how should I fab it??? Thanks!! |

You could trim the body so that it fits the sliders properly

get some 3/16th steel rod and start cuttin' and a bendin'. Do you have a welder/can you weld?

I can weld, I can bend and do pretty much all the stuff myself... But, I don't have a "small" welder so trying to weld 3/16 would be fairly difficult wouldn't it???

How not "small" is your welder? Stick, mig? 3/16 solid rod shouldnt be to much of an issue even with a bigger welder that cant go to lower amps. I was able to do solid rod with my crap hf flux core mig that only had high low setting and wire speed (no real amps adjust) before I bought my tig machine. Heck I originally bought the hf mig to do exhaust repairs on the cheap for some friends. So solid rod was cake.. |

| Re: Scx10 armor question... or raise the body up to clear the sliders You can always braze the joints with silver solder, just make sure you fishmouth the ends, makes for a stronger joint. |

Lincoln 180 mig (220/240v) + 3/16" rod + 75/25% CO2/Argon + .025 wire = ^ more... 'nother... ^ self taught, learn as I go !? Lol oh btw... all my bends were made using a vise even the loop on the sliders trailing end. Tho' I did use some 1/2" steel rods mounted in the vise to bend a round. Not as easy as buying a cheapo Harbor Freight rod bender tho' Last edited by TacoCrawler; 07-19-2015 at 10:00 PM. |
