Default Rear Cab Mounts

I'm sticking a new Honcho shell (cab only) on my chassis. I've done my usual magnetic mounts on the front half. Now I'm trying to work out a way to mount the rear wall of the cab to the frame rails.. I've figured out several ways to attach it with screws, but I'd like it to be easily removable. The front half, with the magnets, is acting as the hinge. Any ideas?

One thought I had is to glue a piece of styrene in place to reinforce the rear wall and look for ideas based in hardbody mounting methods.

Why not use magnets all around?

I find they've got a bit of lateral slide to them. In the past, with full shells, I'd peg down the back of the body at the rear bumper, so the front stays kinda lined up. I might see if there's something I can do, though.

you could do something similar to this...

exclude the hoop...
but build a bracket to support pins at the rear cabin wall.

bolt on kit for morpheus_tn...

or if you don't mind drilling holes in your roof

you can make something similar to

what I did to my Honcho Truggy

the front has the stock body posts

and holes in the body

I like that. Well hidden, simple, strong.

Kgb424 - I could do that, but I'm trying to do hidden mounts. No holes. Cool idea though.

It dawned on me tonight, that the frame rails are steel (duh) and I could attach a few magnets to the base of the rear wall, so they'd stick to the chassis. The channel cut into the rear wall controls side to side motion

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

No it don't.

the cab's rear fire wall lower notch (channel ?)
simply spans- straddles above the frame.
...it does not center the body, nor physically touch the F rails.

The original rear body mount posts keep alignment
and keep the notch riding above the frame rails.

If it makes contact... it will become fubar.

If you might think it could serve for body alignment purpose...
be sure to add some reinforcement to that back wall/notch
or it will crack/rip easily.

Another sheet of .040 lexan cut to shape
and adhered (laminated) using E6000 might offer enough strength.

I still use the rear factory post mounts (cust. velcro mnt. up front)
and even with the rear post keeping the body centered
that notch got torn a little from stress/body shift.

I also made my own sliders and the Honcho Cab sits in the sliders and does not move around

and my cab has got a tear right in the notched area in the back and that was with the stock bed on

so it tearing there is common,

I used shoe goo and drywall mesh and strengthened in the inside of the back of the cab too keep it from tearing more

Well, maybe yours don't, but mine do. I reinforced the rear wall of the cab with heavy styrene and cut it to fit over the framrails.

Still doesn't help with the lateral location up front, but hey, one step at a time.

Here are a few shots of the rear section and showing how I do the front mounts.

I didn't say it couldn't...
just that... that's not what it was designed for

'bout time you posted some pictures

look forward to seeing how well that holds up to roll overs !? Lol

Just playing poke the bear. I wanted to channel the body as low as possible over the chassis. I'm going for something fairly scale, so it's got steel 1.55s on it too.

As for how it does in rollovers...it'll probably pop right off, but I only run my backyard trail anyhow. It's pretty tame.

Huh. Posted this earlier. Didn't stick.

I couldn't figure out a solid hidden solution to my hinge idea, so I decided to make it look as cool as possible. I took the endplates off an old Integy lightbar, drilled a few holes and now my cab is rear hinged, with magnets holding the front down. One more bit to fab in order to keep the nose properly centered, a little paint and this one's ready for dirt!

^

tho' I'd hate to have to purchase the light bar...
just to obtain those.

I'd probably just use a plastic servo mount...
and machine a 'lil bit with muh dremel.

yeah... I'm kinda thrifty or cheap !? Lol

Thanks. This was an older, really useless light bar. Got it from a friends years ago. Never actually used it myself. So dim!
