Default Just another yota build

I have all my stuff ready with the exception of my SMF RC works cage that is due in soon.

Also thinking about ordering up the SSD D60 axle cases when they start shipping.

Trying to figure out if I want to pinch the front but gonna wait till I get everything on with the cage before I decide what to do with the body. It is gonna depend on which tires I will be running.

Not sure what my plan is yet for wheels and tires. This truck has the 1.9 boggers but I have some other tires to work with and also two other trucks to swap with.

My other options without purchase are a set of older 1.9 (small tsl's), set of 1.9 PB growlers and a set of 1.9 trep's.

I have liked the growlers all around performance and if I decide to stay on the smaller side for tires I will get the 1.55 growlers.

Looks good, but I don't like the pinch look on Toyotas.

Just ordered this bumper. Debated on a stinger bumper but want the front to look more beefy.

Also picked up a waterproof gear head light bar.

Wanting to do a 40 up 60 down suspension setup. Anyone know what spring setup would allow this?

The SMF works cage will show up tomorrow and will get this project started. Been waiting to see how it all sits so I can get an idea for wheels/tires and whether I will want to pinch the cab.
Got the SSD scx10 d60 axles ordered this evening as well. These things look pretty cool.

That's the same cage I'm looking at except I'm getting the version for the stock Honcho body.
Only hang up is how the tub would handle a spare wheel.
Are you putting a spare wheel in the tub?
If so, how are you planning on doing it? Hard to tell from their website if there's a mount for a wheel.

SMF did just get another happy customer.

I like this cage with the tray to take up some of the dead space. Below is a pick with a possible spare location. Not sure yet what I will do for the spare yet but will mess around with that after I get my SSD axles that will be here tomorrow and electronics in.

Staring on my new SSD d60 axles and going ahead and ODing the front while I am at it. This will be my first rig with OD. Never did it during a build and never had a reason to take the axle apart to do it.

I do like the idea of being able to take the cover off these to check things and grease easily if needed down the road.

Who makes that front bumper ?

When you get to the point of the grill and all installed, can youo show a side profile of the bumper ? I am wonder how far it sticks out and what it will do to the approach angle.

SSD makes that bumper and last I saw they were available at RRP.

Below is the best side view (with proline tsl's) I have right now. I think the approach angle will be fine but time will tell.

I think I am going to run this with the smaller tires and may end up getting some 1.55 growlers to put under it. Gonna run the tsl's for a bit before making that decision in case I feel the need to get more rubber underneath. If I go bigger I will have to pinch the cab though.

So I have the new SSD axles on but I was running the stock 3 link front and rear and don't have the right length uppers. I will be making some to get the angle corrected.

Got the bottom part of the grill cut off and the bumper lined up and I think it looks like a pretty good fit. Also got the electronics all soldered with a BEC installed. I had never used a BEC before but since I am using the stock esc and gonna have a light bar I figured I should get the BEC in while I was at it.

Almost ready to drive. Got the electronics where I think I want them and will need to figure out battery location. Light bar where I want it. Thinking about putting a switch on the lights since I may not want them on all the time. Still need to reverse the rotation of motor due to SSD axles. Need to trim the front of fender a little more and shave a hair off front of grill to fit behind winch better. Going to pick up a wireless controller for winch. May not get all of that done before I hit the trails for a test run but enjoying putting it together.

Have the electronics mounted and close to taking it out to stretch its legs.

Gonna need a name for this truck. Any ideas?
