I honestly don't think there is a best wheelbase. I have seen trucks with a short wheelbase make climbs that a longer one can't, it more of fine tuning your truck, it comes down shock tuning, weight placement, cog, gearing and tire choice.

@11-12.5in is what most run at for comps..12.5in being the MAX wheelbase. Any shorter,you cant make the vertical climbs..unassisted. Flush bumpers front/rear to minimize approach/departure angles..as well.  |

I use a bumper that is similar to the honcho because it allows you good clearance

WB and bumpers are personal preference more than anything. I run 13" on my 1.9 wraith...anything shorter feels weird.

I prefer a 12" WB on most of my scalers but it depends on the body and personal preference. I recently convertedy G6 Jeep to a 12.3" Jeep JK and hated the break over angle. Crawling is not all about climbs. It's about a well rounded rig that does everything. It really depends on the terrain and driver.
