Default Mini-Me's "Race Crawler" - a.k.a. The Rice Crawler

My three year old son took a HUGE interest in what I was recently doing. I started rummaging through things and found that I had more than enough parts to build a AR-44 based crawler. Not a single part on this rig came from a kit. It all came from boxes and boxes of spare this and spare that. This is, quintessentially, a scratch build. Mind you, there's no major fabrication work going into it, but then, the recipient is three years old. So that explains that.

So Caleb loves his new 'Jeep'. That's what he calls it... While rummaging though everything, I came across a Toyota Celica that his uncle had when he was a kid and passed it on to him. Just for poops and grins, I checked the wheelbase, and lo and behold, it was close enough to make it work. I proceeded to fit the body to Caleb's new Jeep. He freaking loves it! The most important thing to him was that we mount the spare wheel/tire to the body. He insisted that it go there.

Here's the parts list so far. In time, it will end up just as stupidly upgraded as all of my other builds. OCD and RC is bad for my wallet... But hey, at least I'm among friends on that point. Mind you, it's not finished off yet... If it's not listed, that's because it's what would be stock to a SCX-10.

Parts List:
  • 1.9 Motoworx Racing SLW 6-Spoke Bead Lock Wheels (one has LURC Scale Hardware, which the others will get too when I find the time)
  • 1.9 Dick Cepek Rough Country Tires
  • VP .225 SLW Hubs
  • LURC Scale Acorn Bolts
  • Wraith Shocks (waaaayyyy too tall... we'll be going to something in the 70-90mm range, I just didn't have anything else on hand)
  • LURC FI Spools
  • Axial HD OD/UD Ring and Pinion Gears
  • R2j Suspension and Steering Links (back-ordered)
  • STRC Aluminum Front Bumper Mount/Frame Brace (I ditched the matching rear, for aesthetic reasons)
  • Hitec HS-645MG (definitely going to upgrade)
  • Axial HD Tranny Gears
  • Fast Eddy Bearing Kit
  • MIP Driveshafts
  • Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Pro (55t)
  • Axial Aluminum Clockable c-Hubs (not installed)
  • Axial Aluminum Hi-Steer Knuckles
  • Axial Aluminum Lockouts
  • Axial CVD's
  • AX-3 / AE-2 Combo (Won't be throwing much power at this thing AT ALL, after all, he's 3...)

I think that's about it... Now onto some Scale Crawler Porn. Since I'm not completely set up again, I must apologize for the poor lighting.
