Default Time to upgrade electronics

Went for a night crawl last night with my bomber and scx CR Rubi. Let the lady run the Rubi and I'm not sure what happened but she almost burned it down Swapped the stock 27T burnt motor for a spare stock 20T I had laying around and poof, we have smoke from the esc. Long story short, it's time to put new electronics in the rig and I'm not sure what way to go and not in the mood to search through thread after thread. I wanna run a Holmes combo of electronics and am curious what way to go. The rig is used for light trailing/mostly crawling. Not comping with it just having a good time. Is it time to go brushless? Do I stay brushed? I noticed on the Holmes site there's an option for motor direction but not sure what I need. What does the community recommend with the Holmes combo options? A buddy of mine put the axial 55T trail breaker in his rig and that was waaay too slow for me. I liked the overall function of the axial 27T motor but like to upgrade when things need to be replaced. Any advice is appreciated.

Castle sidewinder 3 and Holmes Crawlmaster 13t is my favorite Crawler brushed combo. Factory waterproof ESC, great smooth motor that's about 27t equivalent for a 3 slot motor (Crawlmaster 13t is a 5 slot). 3s gives you the best of both worlds, incredibly smooth low speed control and plenty of wheel speed.

+1 on the SV3.

As far as the motor, I can't offer much help.

Is the sidewinder 3 the same as the yeti rtr vanguard esc?

Another +1 for the SV3. I've been very happy with mine. I couldn't find a direct comparison between the SV3 and vanguard. This thread claims they're the same (look near the bottom): Axial rr10

That's exactly what I thought. I bought the castle fane for my yeti a while back. Maybe I should swipe the yeti esc and put a better one in there before it gets smoked.

Sv3 is not a 3s friendly esc, and yes it is the stock vanguard esc for brushless. I put a MMP in and went to a sensored tekin 3000kv. Cool and fast

Sidewinder 3 works fine on 3S. See also: http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...dewinder3.html

Sv3 loves 3s and is smooth as hell.

Thanx, I just plain got tired of thermal shutdown with the stock 3100 and esc.
Mine runs 35 degrees cooler, and this setup is sensored so sweet and smooth, cannot get close unless you run brushed

With some motors, lack of sensor makes it useless to me. I run it in my 2wd slash on 3s

I run the SV3 in brushed mode. That is where it's at. It has the best programmability of anything in its price range. Throttle curves are crucial.

I got one of my SV3s for $43 shipped at Amazon, since I am a prime member. You do need the Castle Link to program, but since I now have 3 Castle BECs and 2 Castle ESCs, I broke down and got one. I got tired of borrowing my LHS's link (and I'm sure they got tired of it too lol)

Good point. Forgot about it only working with sensorless motors.

@ this point I'm leaning towards the BR XL esc and Crawlmaster pro 540 13T. I don't really want to jack the yeti's esc.
