| 10.63" wheelbase
What is the easiest way to shrink the wheelbase from 12.3" to 10.63"? Going to get the new Bigfoot 1 body when it comes out for the Traxxas Stampede. Will I have to get the short wheelbase frame or can I just use shorter links? I know there are many ways to do this, but with money being tight I can't afford to redo stuff. Any and all help and/or suggestions is appreciated. |

I think shortening down to 10.5" will cause driveline issues unless you somehow lower the trans to decrease the driveshaft angles and you may have to use custom links.

Make custom length links, and lower the suspension/ use shorter shocks to lessen drive line angle might work for ya. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |

I'm running a 10.0 wheelbase using SCX10 axles, trans and skidplate. Shorter links for sure, and I did limit the shocks by about 10mm. You'll have to trim the chassis, and most likely relocate the shock hoops, but the running gear will work no problem. |

I built my SCX10 shorty with the STRC Axial SCX10 Short Wheelbase Chassis Conversion kit, but made custom links to achieve a 10.75" wheelbase, in order to mount a Nikko toy FJ Cruiser hard body. I currently have a Telluride body (same wheelbase as a Stampede), and it fits just fine. The links that come with the kit are for a 10" (Tamiya) wheelbase, but the frame rails are very strong and short enough to fit smaller bodies. They also help with shock alignment on shorter wheelbases. The SCX10 frame rails are 16.25", the same length as the Traxxas Bigfoot body (16.25"), so you probably wouldn't have room for bumpers, unless you raised the body above the rails, but, even then, the bumpers will extend past the front & rear of the body. Since it's a Monster Truck, though, it might be just fine. The drawback of the STRC SWB frame rails, from my experience, is that they're a bit too short for my wheelbase, running full 1.9 tires (4.65" OD), and mounting a scale bumper. I had to find a special bumper that curved away from the front, to keep the tires from biting into it when turning. |

Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions. A friend of mine gave me an extra scx10 frame he had to see about shortening and making my own links. The motor in my truck ('14 F250 diesel) took a dump last week. Been playing with the scx10 so I don't go crazy waiting for the mechanic to call me with the repair estimate. I travel for work and have put 280,000 miles on the truck towing around 15,000 lbs on a gooseneck trailer. I take my rc with me everywhere I go. Again, thanks everyone. Wayne |
