| Weird suspension issue - droopy driver side
Hi all! I have been having a really weird issue with my SCX10 II for a while, and have all but given up hope. I can't figure out what is causing this to save my life! The driver side front of the truck sits significantly lower than the other side. I can pick up the truck and it will be close to level when I set it back down, but if there is any compression it reverts back to being lopsided. It doesn't seem to affect the crawling ability, nor the alignment. It just looks dorky. I have gone thru all of the links to make sure they are the right length. I have also made sure none of them are binding. The shocks are buttery smooth and move freely as needed. I have moved the trailing link from one side to the other, but that didn't help. Verified the pitch on the knuckles are consistent with each other. I'm at a complete loss as to what is causing this. I'd like to think that I'm intelligent enough to be able to figure it out, but it's painfully apparent that I'm not. heh Some pix here if you're interested - I can take more if needed. https://imgur.com/a/xMiLj Thanks in advance - hoping that another set of eyes will be able to help me figure out where I went wrong! -Moddy Here is what I'm running: SCX10 II kit Xtra Speed axle housings Hot Racing aluminum knuckles and carriers Traxxas big bore shocks with Axial springs Boom Racing aluminum shock hoops Chinese knock-off beadlocks w/ BFG AT KO2's Devil HD Trans and Xfer case gears eBay carbon fiber battery tray eBay aluminum servo relocation mount RC4WD Bumper w/ eBay Chinese shackles Weise 20kg Servo 35T RC4WD motor Hobbywing 1080 ESC FlySky GT3C & receiver |

Move the shock spring combination to another wheel and see if the droop follows. Rule out a weak spring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Re: Weird suspension issue - droopy driver side Ahh - should have put that in my main post. Did that as well. I even put a stiffer spring up there - it helped, but I imagine it would throw the geometry outta whack...

That’s odd. What’s the spring rates and oil weights? When you compress the suspension evenly and let it level back out, how does the truck sit? |

It has to be either the shock or the spring....you moved the spring but did you try swapping the shock to the passengers side...that's not a slight lean you think the tire was flat lol Did you try putting a stock shock and spring in there for a shits and giggles? Another thought those shock tower mounts are they identical...I know you have them both mounted in the same rearward hole but is the distance from frame to hole the same on both sides? If I set it down gently (so it's level) and compress it, it comes up lopsided. | |

Putting the 2 front shocks together and installing them would either rule out shock and spring or point to the mount

I have the same thing going on as well, i am running traxxas trx4 shocks and springs, had it with my stock shocks (honcho rtr), so far i have assumed it is a side to side weight distribution issue with the radio and esc side being droopy, and the front shock droops more with the extra servo/battery weight up front, the only thing i have done is adjusted spring preload in that corner to compensate. Have you figured out what’s causing the left front shock to bind? I’m going with the shock body is resting too close to the shock hoop, and when you compress th right front shock the angle of the axle is forcing your left shock against the left front shock hoop, causing you shock to bend internally, and making it bind against itself. I would try a small spacer between the shock, and the shock hoop. I’m using proline powerstroke shocks (slash fronts), and I used 2mm spacers between my shocks, and hoops to pull the shocks away from the chassis, now the suspension compression is like you say “buttery smooth”. |
