Default Shocks - What has everyone tried or running?

I have been building my Wraith and have taken it out a few times over the course of the upgrades and just trying options to get good control over my rig plus articulation to maintain the tire grip..

First I started out stock RTR set up and then I changed out the springs to a softer rate - It made the truck handle alot better I felt, not so tipsy and the truck sat lower due to me setting the coil preload just tot the point the spring didn't move loose at full extension.

Next - Currently I just installed:
- Level 3 lowering kit.
- ProLine rear Slash shocks front and rear.
- ProLine spring tune kit with the softest rate spring with the transfer turned over.
- 20wt oil

Proline rear Slash shocks are the same length as RTR factory Wraith shocks and with the lowering kit I can bottom out the rear axle upper link mount to the batt. tray and or bottom part of the roll cage. In front I came close to the servo hitting the cage. BUT other wise I really thought the Wraith handled the rough terrain and obstacles really nice at a decent more aggressive pace. Large rock or wood logs was a lot easier than before. Slow crawling pace I felt I lost too much total drop out and could have gained more traction, reason for exploring possibly longer shocks.

So my thoughts as, what about a longer shock that allowed for more travel, loose alittle over all compression travel as I can't use it anyways with the suspension bottoming out now and gain back the full drop out travel as the suspension had from factory that I lost when I lowered it with the new lowing upper shock mounts.

I looked around and found some shocks ranging in 108mm, 124mm and 128mm.

What is everyone else running and or tried on their Wraith, please share set ups and thoughts.

Thanks!

I have XL big bores on mine. Had them left over from a previous comp rig but they fit and work great.

I guess I am cheap.. I changed to the 3 hole piston in the stock shocks and the super soft springs. I think I now have 30 wt oil in them. They seem to work very good, I am looking for a very good overal performance and this seems to work good enough for me. I use my wraith for 90% crawling no KOH style driving yet but my daughter is always driving it with her dolls in it so I will probably get another one and really mod it out.

if you bash, traxxas slash. if you crawl, im running stock shocks, 30 Wt oil, and HPI MT2 springs. FANTASTIC spring rate!

RC4WD aluminum 110mm's on order now.

id never use a lowering kit if your crawling. just use a softer spring that sits the truck lower. you dont need huge compression, you want huge drop out!

For my basher i just threw shorter springs onto the stock shocks. Yeah the shocks travel way more then the spring, but its an RC car, so it doesn't matter like a real car. shocks don't bind up at all, and on jumps the extra shock droop and movement helps a bunch. they are also much stiffer then the stock springs, as they meant for an onroad car.

Think I may try my ProLines without the lowering kit and then after that try some 124mm, I am really liking these.... Corey @ RPPHobby.com has them for $50 on a set of 4, buy these and sell my Prolines and put some money back in my pocket for some other upgrades
