Hoosiers Rubi-Wraith

I jumped on the bandwagon and got one. I've got a ton of extras coming for it, this is going to be a long build. Here's how she's setup.

Dynamic Concepts Rubi panel kit
Dinky's "6 pack" roof
Dinky's drop tray cargo
Castle Mamba Max Pro esc
Tekin Redline 13.5t
32p gears
15t traxxas-60t Kimbrough
Hitech hs 665mg (i think) servo
HR heavy duty trans gear set
HR Chubs
HR knuckles
STRC Steering linkage
Level3 CMS kit
TSL Mud Slingers
Gmade GT beadlocks
RC4WD 100mm scale shocks w/ red boots and Rancho decals
ARB diff covers
Flysky GT3B rx/tx
billscustomrclighting 12 led set

I'm sure I'm missing something, but anyways. Here's the pics. Seems like a nice kit so far. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1726.jpg
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1713.jpg
I painted the diff covers, and started detailing them just in time to order some ARB covers instead. I'll finish these up anyways.

My tires showed up. Traded a 2S lipo for a set of TSL Mud Slingers on a set of Axials.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1715.jpg
Made some 2-stage foams, but they're to damn big
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1720.jpg
Here's the axles and trans laid out. I've got Lucas Marine grease in the diff..

One gripe I have is the plastic balls for the rod ends. I mean seriously...you spend $300 on the freakin thing and they give you plastic? Definately upgraded that to metal. Got the links installed on the axles.

And finaly, a teaser of the body.

Was wondering when you where going to show it off.
Looks good. I like the painted gear cover. Would match my color.

yeah, I cant get the damn paint to setup. IDK what the deal is. It's been 2 days and its still tacky to the touch. If they arent dry within the next day or so I guess I'll have to strip em and start over. I applied the white backer on my body panels last night just to find a run in the paint. This neon blue is a royal PITA

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

I've got a Savox sc-1256tg servo, along with a Castle 10a bec coming soon. So that should take care of steering. My Mamba Max Pro has a built in BEC that goes up to 7.2 (i think) will this take place of the castle bec I just ordered, or will I still need to use the 10a castle external bec?

I cut the upper edge of the battery tray kinda like savage did on RCB and mounted it up front. Heres mockup.

Heres a sneek peek of the body panels.

What do you guys think?

I like your thinking once again! that 13.5t is sweet, I have one and love it!

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

Your running the same setup as me. I run the external bec straight to the servo and let the internal bec on the mmp power the receiver.

Thanks for advise. I'll do the same."thumbsup"So did you bump the amps up from default on your mmp? Or did you leave it at 6? I cant see needing anymore power for the RX.

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

I think I have my internal set to like 5.2. but yeah it won't need any more than six. Make sure to plug your external bec into the castle link prior to any wiring and set it up. I think the savox is 6. But you may want to check the specs on it. On 3s, stock spur, and 6degrees timing advance mine will do prob 30mph. And crawls like a champ. But with 32 pitch gears it will do 20mph on 2s, excellent low end and no over heating. I am very new at this still but I have put in some serious time reading this forum and it is a huge help and inspiration!

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

timing advance is one thing I'm still in the dark on. I'll have to do some more research in that area. Not sure why it's needed or how it affects performance. I'm not new to RC, but the MMP is a high end piece of equipment that I'm not use to. I've always had lower end $30-40 esc's except for my VXL setup. So any advice is definately welcome. As it is now, I'm just reading directions and checking out other rigs. Monkey see, monkey do type stuff.

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

In the menu for the mmp you will find an advance tab with a cheat mode option. In that mode you can choose how many degrees to advance the timing and what rpm you want this to take place at. Becareful if you are running a high mah battery. you don't want to run for long periods of time on high advance or you will overheat. Or you do it however you want like I do and just check the heat periodically. You can also set like a 200 and something percent drag brake for just crawling.

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

yeah I saw that. But with this b/l setup Im afraid it'll endo when I let out of the throttle at speeds. I'll start it at 80% I think and go from there.

Lol. It sure will.

I'm looking into driveshafts now, any advise or input is welcome. I figure these will be splintered and twisting in two after a couple runs.

I'm still running stock drive shafts. I got some steel rod at the hardware store and gorilla glued it in them.

hard to believe a wraith doing 20mph on 2s, when mine on 3s does MAYBE 15mph with 23/80t 48p gearing and the 13.5t tekin with slightly advanced timing.

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

Im running a 15/60 setup in 32p on 3S. I'll try to find my Rc calc. and plug in the numbers to get a estimated mph. I'm hoping for close to 25 top end, but it is what it is. As long as I can get sideways in the dirt I'm happy.

barnyard 02-13-2012 05:05 PM

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

I am running 14/58 32p on 3s 2650mah 40c. I am just guessing at mph. My eyes may be bigger than I think. lol. I do know sideways in the dirt is not a problem though. My buddy has a stock wraith with a 2s 5000mah 25c and mine on 2s 4000mah 20c and stock gears kills his in an ugly kinda way. We haven't raced with my 32p gearing.

Re: Hoosiers attempt at a Scale Rubicon Wraith

I got my HR knuckles and chubs in last night. As well as my hardened steel trans gears. Here's what the coffee table looked like last night.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1738.jpg
Love this Lucas Marine grease. Really sticky stuff.
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1741.jpg
One issue I have are these HR knuckles. They appear to be for rear steer only unless you flip the chubs over and swap sides, etc. I've wrote a note to HR to ask for better directions on installing them. My knuckles dont have the 2 extra arms jutting out of the backside of them like the stock ones. I thought it was wierd, but they're for the Wraith so IDK. They kinda look like they're setup for rear steer only but I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just having a senior moment at 32. Any body got a pic of how their HR knuckles and chubs are mounted?
