| Wraith on its way
So I ordered my Wraith Saturday. I am starting with the RTR so I can use it while I decide what I want to do to it. I am reviewing some of the builds here for ones others have built to see what I like and dislike.

Good for you. That's what I did also. I do a little each month and that way it doesn't hurt. Have fun with it.

Good stuff man, Just make sure you go over the whole RTR truck and make sure everything is tightened. Just a once over make sure she is good to go! Post pics as the build comes along!!!

Alright, I have confirmation that I will have my rig on Monday. I have been killing myself watching videos on youtube and looking at everybody's cool S*%t here. I found these pics here and would like to know what wheels these are. I was already planning on going to the Swamper tire since I have run them on my real crawlers with good luck, but i really like these wheels also. and new wheels and tires.. |

I'm in the same boat as you. Shold hopefully have my RTR by Monday, but I actually ordered mine last Wednesday (04/21). I've at least already got a driver and passenger for mine. Already bought stuff to waterproof the electronics, too. I believe those wheels are made by RC4WD, but I could be wrong. They're a scale version of the Poison Spyder Spyderlok beadlocks, or ATX Slabs (same wheel). |

| Re: Wraith on its way Thanks. I am going to have to save some pennies for those. I may look into cutting my own set. I work in an engineering lab at ASU and I have already designed some wheels for my 4runner I am building. maybe just scale down and run them through our CNC. |

My rig arrived early. Got it today, but dang I gotta wait for the batteries to charge. I'd post pics, but there are probably 1000's of stock Wriath pics here. I'll post up some thoughts after I run a few batteries through it.

Good God, why did I wait so long to buy one of these. I will waste more time with this than I did with porn. I gotta start getting the excuses ready for why I need this or that. My wife is not going to understand. |

I got my wife into beading (jewelry). No problems when I needs parts - cause she needs beads...

Alright, I am enjoying running the Wraith, but the weaknesses show. I have noticed steering issues in tight situations. I will be looking into upgrading the links first then the servo. I have a problem with screws falling out of the front axle, the ones that hold the C's on the housing. The next thing I want to deal with is switching to lipo and lowering the CG. I also would like to go with a softer spring and maybe a complete new shock set up. I have started designing my wheels in solid works and hopefully in the next week or two will have them made. I will be cutting them on a Fadal CNC at the lab I work at. |

The screws holding the chubs on have always been a problem, there course thred going into plastic. Swap them out for some fine thred M3 screws and that should take care of that. The steering links and front servo are two of the first things to replace. The servo usually die's within the first few packs anyways. Once you upgrade it tho be sure to have the upgraded steering links as well. Plastic links with a good servo and running the dog bone style front axle shafts is a good way to break parts. |

I had the same issue with the chub screws. I just put a drop of Loc-Tite on them and now they don't budge. As far as the factory servo, I have the oh-so-wonderful suicide switch steering kit from CKRC (yeah, yeah...I know) and an aluminum servo horn and I noticed that I can wiggle the wheels and the pinion on the servo wiggles. Before I ever used the factory one, I replaced it with the upgraded CKRC one (T-Pro MG946R) and it died during the first 15 minutes of run time. Looking now at replacing the shitty factory upper & lower links, as they've now.....after 5 packs.....become quite flexible and weak. Already burned up and replaced the factory 20T motor, along with 32P 54/13 gears. All this in the first week. |

Here are the wheels that are going in the CNC in the next week or so They are spec'd to match the offset and width of the wheels that came on it stock. I am just doing this to see how well these cut on the CNC I have access to. I will probably do a few sets and play with different offsets and overall wheel design. these are designed to go on the stock axle setup with the drive nut on the axle. I am going to do a set with out the need for the drive nut. I am sure there is a good reason for that nut, but i don't know what it's there for. So if you know feel free to let me know. |

Or...... save the hassle and buy these..... They do not have the rock ring full of external screws, but they are beadlocks and the same design overall. GCM Racing WebStore-2012 - Bumpers and Wheels GCM 1.9 Beadlock Slot and Hole Rims and Spares | |

Unfortunately I have been broke for a while so I haven't been able to do any good upgrades, but since I paint for a living I decided I would give the Wraith a quick make over. As soon as I get some funds together i am going to upgrade the electronics. I am just trying to understand what a BEC is and when it is needed. I am looking at getting a new motor and ESC. Also I will be scrapping the steering servo asap. It seems like one upgrade leads to the next. I can see how this is going to snowball. |

A Battery Elimination Circuit (BEC) is a switching voltage regulator. The castle BEC can be set up for any voltage you want from 5V to 7.2V. Most people use the BEC to run their servos, so it doesn't take away voltage from your ESC. I have a 3 way splitter on mine to run my servo, LED's and winch power. I have it set to 6V. Most ESC's only produce 5V to the reciever unless it has a switching BEC like the Mamba Max Pro.

Welp, welcome to the money pit. Yes it snowballs quickly. BEC - Castle is a must, new servo is a must, steering links are must, the rest is all based on your driving style. Links for the axles are really a need, and when $ allow a new ESC and motor. But enjoy until things break..... |
