Default Wraith servo question

Looking to upgrade from the stocker with either a Savox 2270 or Hitec 7950... need to know the pros and ons...

I will be running FXR with a HW 35T. I have a 5645 and a 645 on hand but nothing in the big league.

BEC or no BEC, let me know your thoughts. Good or bad

After A few cheap servos failed I bought the 7954. Amazing in comparison. Very accurate steering and loads of power even with my weighted wheels. I run it at 7v with a BEC. :-)

Castle BEC with the 7950. The high tec is hands down a better servo. Savox just didn't cut it for me. Lack of performance and poor response. Savox didn't cut it in the rocks, as it didn't turn when or where I wanted it to. Seemed like it would only turn when your on the throttle. The 7950 turns when and where I want it to and I know it will last. I can't say that for the Savox. And the Savox warranty sucks.

you can buy the high tec 7950 for only $20 more. not full aluminum but a far superior servo. and it is 486oz at 7.4v. quality rank IMO, high tec is number 1. jr is number 2. saxox is number 3.

Or if you want to spend a little less, check out Servo City and pick up the Hitec HSR5995TG. 333 @ 6V and 416 @ 7.4V. All titanium gears and water & dust tight. And pretty inexpensive @ $70 + shipping.

Don't get me wrong Guy's. I really love my Hitec 7950 on my "PD build" I also have a Airtronics 94780 that kicks butt. I just thought I would give the Savox a run for my latest build.

Ok I'm new to this RC stuff... I noticed after putting my new wheels & tires on that it doesn't want to turn that easy I can see the flex in the servo it self.. If I upgrade to this HS-5995TG Servo Is it just a plug and play with the wraith stock stuff..

I'm running Motoworx wheels with pitbull rock beast and I will be running Vanquish titanium steering its on order.

Thanks for the help in advance..

After stripping three different 7954's I scored a Savox 2270 on sale for $84.

Over twenty packs later it's still ticking. Very quick and seems to have similar torque to the 7954, but it isn't quite as good at holding position. Works admirably in the rocks, but I can still get it cooking hot if I'm working the truck hard. Never flinches, even when the case will instantly burn your finger.

I have to say that it glitched like crazy when powered straight off of the battery and with a Havoc esc. I switched to a Castle MM Pro and no longer have glitching issues.

All the Hitecs use an "MK" first gear off the motor pinion which is the weak point. I have a 7954 that is holding up great in my AX-10, but it just couldn't cut it in the heavier wraith.

Yes and no. You probably could get away with just plugging it in and running it, but you'd be better served installing a Castle BEC along with it. Wire the BEC directly to the servo so it's not drawing power from the ESC. And if you have a Castle Link, you can increase the power on the servo to 7.4, which will yield the most torque. I set mine to 7.2V to keep it a hair under max power.

So whats the difference between the stock servo and the aftermarket one. I'm running a 2s 7.4 battery. I'm new to this stuff just trying to understand...

The stock servo is just built to a low price. It struggles to turn the large wheels when going slow or stood still. A good servo is strong as bull! Also built with better quality internals that make steering more accurate and the servo will last longer.

The teeth on one of the big cogs on my stock sheeres off eventually. I went through three cheap servos before I bought a good solid hitec. Not cost efficient.

The stock servo only produces 130 oz-in of torque @ 6V. The Hitec HS5995TG that you mentioned (that I currently have) puts out 333 oz-in @ 6V and, using a Castle Link, can be bumped up to 7.4V yielding 416 oz-in, which equals lts of power to turn big, heavy wheels. Not to mention, it has titanium gears inside. I think the stocker has metal gears, but not very strong ones.

Ok so I can run it at 6v and see how it works and if I still need more power I can get the castle bec...

Well....it's a good idea to get a BEC anyway so your servo isn't pulling power directly from the speed control. The Castle Link is what you'd need to change the voltage going to the servo. SO:

Castle BEC--I'd get one as it'll put less strain on the stock speed control
Castle Link--Optional, but a good idea when funding allows.

Each of them is about $20-$23, so not that expensive when purchased separately. Also, the Castle Link will allow you to change settings on your stock speed control, (Axial AE-2) too.

ok Do you have a link to a good place to buy both the BEC and link.
I will need the castle link to change the output of the BEC?
