So is there really a huge difference between a 20T and a 27T? And what about jumping up to a 50/55T? My Wraith is really only used for crawling and slow trail driving. |

Comparing stock motors there's a big difference from 20t to 27t. The 20t has way less torque but is much faster. The 27t has more torque and not quite a fast, but still pretty good. The 55t stock is super slow but a ton of torque (I actually have all 3 and have run them in the truck at some time or another). For what you are saying a 35t motor might work pretty good. I'm going with a 30t motor on 3s when my 27t stock motor burns up. |

If you can, get a good hand wound motor, 35t or 45t. Amazing difference between a good handwound motor and a cheap motor. Look for a deal in the for sale area... Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2 |

If you use your wraith for cawling get a good 35 turn motor then change your gearing to 16/87 and you will be set.

So if I didn't want to get into changing the gears would a 50/55T be better? I have read the first few pages of Harley's excellent thread on motor/ESC/gearing, but still am unsure what would be best for my use. |

Sorry, didn't think just getting a new motor was considered a cheap work around. I am not that familiar with the whole motor gearing thing. So what would the difference in speed be with a 35T motor and new gearing like 84/15 compared to stock? 20-30-40% less...... Thanks Harley, love your threads. They have confused and help me out greatly.....lol |

I can't tell you a percentage different and crawlers rarely work in MPH so I can't give you that either. You could find an approx kv rating for the various brush winds, and take that vs the gear change percentage but it will all be estimates. The 35 is a good motor for some trail runs and crawlings, but is going to be quite a bit slower than the stock 20t. | |

I was just checking out the Holmes site and was wondering if this is the motor you are referring to Holmes Hobbies / Holmes Bikes :: Motors :: Brushed :: TorqueMaster Expert 540 And it looks like I will need the BR-XL ESC too......man you are costing me more money. LOL |

I am currently running a high torque servo (203oz-6v) and was told that this is really pushing my oem ESC to its limits and that I really need to get a better one or go to a BEC.

| Re: 20T....27T......50T Oh my! A BEC is a very good idea, I would highly suggest it. The BRXL has a good BEC in it as well but I still ran a Castle BEC even when I was running it. The Castle BEC is just a nice programmable piece.

I am using that exact same motor (HH Expert 35T) in my Wraith and I also mostly crawl with it, with some trail runs mixed in. I love it.. Works great. Gotta change the gearing though... You might be intimidated by it now, but trust me.. Once you actually tear into the truck and see what's involved, and do some reading... You'll see that it's super easy to deal with.

Oh I am not to concerned about getting into the gearing, just didn't want to if I didn't really need to.

BROOD makes a great brushed motor as well. Better then HH motor IMO.....Greasing down with a 35 or 30T motor will put you in a good low crawl ratio. 56 or 60T spurs gear and anywhere from 12 to 16T pinion will work great for you on the low end

So the CC BEC is a good way to go (not the pro unit?)

Any suggestions for a place to get some nice spur/pinion gears?
