Default 20 Tooth Drive Gear...

Does anybody offer a better (harder) 20 tooth top drive gear for the Axial Wraith?

I am using a Robinson Racing Gen 3 Slipper clutch (48 pitch) along with one of their center idler gears and one of their one piece bottom gear/shaft combos.

While crawling my rig ground to a hault and this is what I found when I took her apart. The bits that broke off were jammed between the gears preventing any movement.

I don't trust that top gear anymore than I do the two plastic gears below it... I replace all three with the Hot Racing hardened steel gear set... It includes all 3 gears for $28.

Is that the stock top shaft, looks to me like you need to invest in a little more than a set of gears. Looks like something bounced some teeth..
Time to build a bomb proof trans.
Aluminum case, super shafty top shaft, and some robinson gears should fix the problem..
REMEMBER, harder means more brittle. You get them too hard and they wear great, but a hard shock and BOOM..

Yes, here:

OP check your tranny bearings and assuming it was greased well. I'm running stock top, RRP steel idler, and RRP Hard anodized aluminum lower gear...starting to doubt my setup lol. I've found that the stock Axial tranny case has lots of flex in it, needs thicker plastic with more/better gussets. It's sad that an aftermarket aluminum case is necessary.
